Oh no - I'm so sorry you lost her. I have no idea what could have been the issue, but I'm going to believe some of our very experienced friends that this was not your fault. As far as what to do with her - we have a couple of parakeets and cockatiels that are resting forever in our backyard, but a BO might require a lot more space. I'd listen to the other's suggestion for a paper bag and a little prayer before sending her on her way.

I'm probably going down, although the 4Her I wanted to see may not be a 4Her this year. The South Bay club The Nephew was in imploded, and my sister has a family club going for him; the Chickenish relatives may not have gotten a club goig in time. Oh, well.

I believe so. I had asked if you had any Auracanas available. That was the breed I had promised my daughter could be hers. So I think we're still looking...

Ah, yes. But I have a definite, 100% pullet that was born about 2 hours ago.

Aha! I want to see it! I've never seen an Auracana baby before.

ETA - How do you know it's a pullet when it's only 2 hours old?

It is APA sanctioned, but the judges have not been announced. I believe that the only marans color recognized by apa is black copper. Don't quote me on that, but I think that's right.

Oh, and we are not going.

The show is APA but not ABA. Bob Anderson is judging. Please, anyone who can come, do. Just bring a bird or two. If this show goes well, it will probably return. If not, this'll be it. This is also a great time for your kids to get some practice fitting and showing before the fair. Don't forget to bring something for the potluck. It should be a low key fun day with poultry people.

I just moved 36 eggs from the big bator to the hatcher last night...some Black Australorps for my MIL and some Bantam Favs for me! I have another two batches to move over tonight and I'll be setting some Houdan bantam and Creve eggs tonight as well as some Muscovy in another bator.

If anyone is interested in any chicks--let me know. I won't be selling any until this fall, after they are "graded" and sexed...the others will be eaten.

I should have GL Cochins (LF), Light Sussex, Creves, BLRW bantams, Blue & Salmon Fav bantams, Muscovies (lots of colors) call ducks (white, SQ lines), Houdan bantams and RIR RCs.
