And here is a little quote from http://www.ultimatehorsesite.com for what is the MOST COMMON breed of horse used for bucking stock. Good conformation, strong legs, high spirits, and desire to buck make a horse a good bronco. Most broncs are part draft, which gives them good bone and muscle making them able to jump high, and part QH, appy, or paint to give them heart and a strong will and athletic ability. Many come from generations of bucking horses, so the natural desire to buck is bred in them

BTW The horse Michelle was on when she got her pelvis and wrist broke. Guess what POCO BUENO. And a now deceased friend had the full brother he also had some very bad rides one of which ended up with a shattered elbow. That particular horse had some real anger issues.

But remember...there are good and bad in EVERY species (including people). I had a Morab (morgan/arab) who I would not trade for anything. He did throw his head and give me hellish black eye once....but on a packing trip into a lake (above Twisp)...our friend's QH mare and mule both "freaked out" on the trail and in the long run, it was Naches (our morab) who ended up making a double trip to help haul everything in. The QH mare was experienced packer, as was the mule. The mule flipped out and lodged himself - upside down- between a stump and rock...had to cut the pack of of him. The mare - she blew up at the very beginning of the trail and went bucking and kicking and running straight through us pack of kids (about 10 of us). My poor morab was the unexperienced 3 yo who was the one that no one was trusting...but ended up being the dependable one. He was so funny....he would grab your glove, hammer, shovel, whatever you had there by you if you were working on something...and run off with it. He was a riot. I used to ride him at a dead run across the field with only baling twine around his neck (don't ask me how I never got killed - no clue)

... and just what is it you were doing? Surely there must be a typo in there!

Ey? No...it is not 12 duckies...21 duckies last time I counted. They don't keep still...so maybe 22?
And the chicken eggs are for thsi gal I met at the feed store. She said she was looking and I said I might be able to hook her up.

She did not fall for the duck egg.

Um....blueducklings....I think Ogress is referring to the word following the number "21". It does not say duckies - you use a different vowel.

I agree, I am so tired of the rain. And yet again, this morning. Will it ever stop? Did you hear there was a mud slide in Winthrop? Up the Chewuch. Also one up past Conconully - trapped some campers up in Salmon Meadows area. this weather is insane.

Yeah the one at Salmon Meadows was my boss & her husband--they weren't trapped but had to back their 30+ foot RV & truck VERY fast to avoid being crushed by the slide. The people trapped on the other side were friends they were supposed to camp with! It doesn't surprise me--it's pouring out right now--AGAIN. I suppose it's good to keep things green & lessen the chance of wildfire but I'm still sick of it.

I drove past your place 4x this weekend (no I am not stalking you)

I was camping with DD and DH up on the Loup - DH was at an archery shoot. I went back and forth to do some yard work. All the rain makes things green - but it will (if our weather ever turns normal) turn dry - much worse for fire hazard. Make sure to keep the tall grasses down around your place. I am considering getting web feet if this rain does not stop.

Also - glad to hear your boss, family and friends were okay. It must have been very scary.

I have limited experience but I have ridden several Arabs & Arab mixes, not the breed for me. One I rode reared up on me, granted he was green broke & me about the same but atleast I stuck to the saddle. I grew up with a shetland & loved him. My Aunt in Law has horses up in Tonasket (hope I spelled it right). She had a QH I trully loved. He was green the first time I rode him but if he spooked it was to the side, he was fun. She got into Arabs & we brought my lil sister up there to go riding. I rode the QH & she rode an Arab green but the most worked with. Something spooked the Arab & she took off bucking. My sister went flying of landing flat on her back. My aunt is a nurse & freaked, my sister got put on a board & trucked to the hosp. Luckily nothing but muscle issues. I wish I had been able to buy the QH, I loved him. She sold him so she only has Arabs. I don't trust them & won't ride them. I'll have to save up for one of my own some day, got to get the land first. Half acre won't do it lol.

Yep Arabs aren't for everyone, they are VERY sensitive to people and training, like all breeds there are lots that have been over and inbred and need to be handled carefully and with experienced people. I have had horses over 30 yrs, and have had a few different breeds, mainly QH or crosses, it hasn't been till the last 10 yrs I've had an Arab. My first was a youngster and I had a lot of work to do, but I was slow and methodical and actually rode him for the first time in an english saddle, ( I don't generally ride english) no buck!! He was a good horse, the second and the one I still have is a rescue, he had a few issues but he has turned out to be one of my best horses and my good buddy and has NEVER offered to kick, or buck!!! So, you have to do your homework, you have to know what the temperament is and the best way to train that animal, they are all different. yes most breeds have certain characteristics that's why we get QH to do the ranch work, and Arabs for endurance riding, ect, they have the traits that suit that job, but, they have if you want to call it, personalities that make them all different! Sorry your sister had a bad experience, maybe she shouldn't have been on a green horse?? People want to blame the horse, but, if she didn't have the experience and the horse needed more training, it was a bad fit. Sounds like more miles and wet saddle blankets with an experienced rider for that horse!!! Sorry just my opinion, don't get me wrong, I've made those mistakes in the beginning too, at my age, I'm a little more careful what I climb on now. I let a younger rider take on a green horse first. But, I get gutsy once in a while!!

It happened back in 03'. Haven't been back just because I had my daughter in 04' & just haven't had the time to get back up there. Need to buy a travel trailer if we want to go back up. Anyway, my sister had more miles on horses then I did & she's younger then me so we chose it that way. I just stick to a horse better then her. My sister was trying to post as the horse was troting in a western saddle, just a bad combo as she wasn't ready for the buck. The buck threw her into the crown/horn first then flat on her back.

Here I am.
Went to BC for some R & R.
Boy taking care of 21 dickies is hard work. Takes more out of me than keeping up with this post.
lau.gif

What did I miss??? I did have some really really really yummy food in BC though.
Also incurred $150 in data roaming fees. Who knew you had to turn off your phone when you reach Blaine?
So who took your ducks? What happened?

No one took my ducks !
It was YOU and Toni that are the missing Duckie Mamas !!!

My only psycho horse was 1) that gorgeous dabbled grey arab mare, and
2) a big BIG standardbred barn sour flat backed mare that a saddle would roll right around on her back...and she would rub ya right off on any tree or post, and she would NOT stop, would run right across streets, rr tracks, pull her head all the wat around so her nose was on your knee & she would just keep running!!
She ran into cars, fences.hated that stupid horse.
She could also trot 45 miles an hour, and would NOT break into a lope.
Jaw the teeth right out of your head.
That is what standardbreds are good at..trotting.
