I thought Hoss was from Bonanza.

Someone in the Brabanter club didn't think much of me naming my cockerel Blondie, but Clint Eastwood was called Blondie in the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Can't get much more masculine than that.

LOL, everyone knows Hoss is the big blue Orp!!!!!!!!!

I use food grade DE every month for about 4 days, one heaping tablespoon in about 1 cup of water, mix & drink it down.
I also sprinkle on the dog's food during the same time.
I also sprinkle it on the chicken feed.
I do not sprinkle it around the coops, runs or poop boards.
I DO sprinkle it on lettuce & radishes to kill any bugs that may eat it.
It does wash off in rain and if so, I sprinkle more.
So there.

I can't believe none of ya called me on this. I did it just to see what would happen. Well maybe I have rambled on here so much that nobody really pays much attention.

I really hope I am the only one that is enjoying the severe effects of (hayfever type) allergies. Not that I enjoy it but hope nobody else is going through this. My nose is nearly constantly dripping and then there are the sneazes that take me off my feet and leave me eggshausted by the end of day. I haven't had it this bad since I stopped getting shots 12 years ago.

Ah-hmmmmm it looks like a hen & ducklings to me...but the biggest mistake is the "WECOME"

Eat more of your honey!

Or sell some to me and I will mix it with DE and sell it as a cleansing/nourishing face mask. I just looked up DE mask and found a 4 oz DE and maple mask for $50!!!

Locale honey IS reported to help your immunal system grow accustomed to the local allergins.

And it IS mighty good tasting medicine !

So maybe someone can help me out? I cross-posted this in the emergency/diseases section....

I have an $80.00 chick (the only one out of two dozen from a judge/breeder that wasn't smashed upon arrival and that made it to hatching)....anyway, he hatched on Sunday.

I left him in the incubator for a day because his navel wasn't closed.

Yesterday, I went to move him to the brooder and he cannot stand. He just tips over. His neck is kind of weird too--might be wry? It just flops over to the one side and he tips over. He kind of "break dances" in circles in the incubator.

I hand-watered him with some sugar water and he was really thirsty. I then went & bought some Rooster Booster (b12 & vitamin K). I gave him some of that. He perked up a little but still just tipped over when I try to stand him up. I then soaked some starter in the Rooster Booster and squirted some down his throat with a syringe. Again, he ate & perked up--but still cannot stand.

His legs look fine, the belly button is still a little questionable.

I have never seen anything like this in all of the chicks I have hatched....the others that hatched around the same time (bantam favs), BLRW bantams & Creves all look fine and are running around, eating...

He is very feisty (and noisy) and seems to want to survive...but what else can I do for him???

Oh and no responses from this breeder via e-mail for replacement eggs...very poor packing....lots of busted eggs. A few I set developed blood rings but most were clear as a bell.

It works for me! Of course, it could be a mental thing!

But we have a lady who comes to the farmer's market every Saturday and brings honey (A&A Honey) and it's cheaper than the store and all local--and SOOO good!

Have you tried to close the belly button ?
I have done this 4-5 times and it has worked 50% of the time, but with new hatches..after that bacteria can get in..
Take a Q-tip, dip well in vaseline, and push in and gently twist the belly button..and remove the q-tip & hopefully the belly button stays in.
Dip another Q-tip in povodone-iodine solution & dab the button well.
Hope this helps.
Sounds like you are doing everything else that can be done, re-hydration, vitamins...
