You grow a lot of stuff......how about these for your chickens. Kale, Arugala, Collard greens, Broccoli. And one more food that has a lot of vitamin D- EGGS!!! or the egg yolk anyway.

This is even MORE vitamin D................

http://www.jefferspet.com/avian-super-pack/p/AB-P1/

I give my birds greens everyday, and they have fantastic feed, and free range, but there is little sunshine.

I looked up foods that are high in Vit D and came up with those specifically. I might pick up kale and arugala to see if my girls will eat it. But I am going to get a supplement. I have Avia Charge 2000, but it doesn't list the different vitamins or the percentage on the container. So I will try something that has it listed so I know how much am giving them. Thanks for the info!

Makes so much sense when you think about it!

Poly-Vi-sol for 30 birds is out of the question.
I gotta think more about this.
There has to be a large amount of supplement available somewhere~~~~~~~~~

Cod liver oil. It's loaded with Vitamin D. It why our grandmothers made our parents take it. Thank God it went out of style.

Ah yes!!! I remember reading that just recently! Man my brain is like swiss cheese these days. Nasty stuff, and wouldn't it make the eggs taste or smell funny?

I was unable to get sterile saline, last night, but I am hoping to get some today. The baby actually is a bit better (well sort of) this morning. I have not had the best of luck trying to force feed. I always seem to drown them. I have been "sort of" but getting some electrolyte water down her, by sitting her beak in my hand and eye dropping the fluid into my hand. I know that water is not great to do this with because it is not sterile, but I had someone have me do this before with a sick kitten - years ago - when I was unable to get saline solution.

Everyone else looks fine, they all came jumping out when I opened their pen - into their little run. I am concerned on how to treat her if she does have cocci, because she is already on medicated food.

Anyone - medicated food & Corid? Seems like too much.

She was very dehydrated.

Thank you for the help/advice. All information is appreciated.

Medicated feed should be enough for the baby IF IT WILL EAT IT>
If it will not eat feed, give Corrid by 1/2 tsp per gallon of water..only.
You can do the Corid in gatorade.
Just make sure you put the liquid way down their throat as if in the mouth it is easy to drown them.
Their opening to the lungs is right behind their pointy little tongues.
Don't give medicated feed AND corid, you will over medicate.
Good luck!!

Thank you much for the information. I got some dextrose and a Monojet syringe (Like you said). Came home for lunch and gave the chick as much as I could. Tonight I mixed in some chick starter, got it to mush, but still pretty much gave the chick just the liquid off of it. the chick seems to be in an upswing. I did not drown (always a good thing) and she is now standing and holding up her head. Not so much before. So she looks much better. Now will wait and see what tomorrow brings. she actually tried to play with a bit of the crumble on her own. I truly think she either got hurt or got dehydrated or over heated from the hot day we had.

That make more sense than what I thought it was.

Truly, I thought he had a pet dragon. There is a lizard (that the DH wants one) that is called a bearded dragon (I think). I thought CR had a pet lizard. Always was wanting to ask. Glad someone else finally did.

It will if you give cheap stuff in big doses but you should be able to get deodorized cod liver oil at the health food store.

I don't know why I didn't think of it- like others in this thread I had a D titre taken last year and was way scary "why are you alive" low.

It's the construction plans taking up all my forebrain. Especially since Ian pecked my daughter tonight and now I'm trying to figure out how to get the hoop house braced and covered and the doors framed AND simultaneously finish the coop and run (finish putting the hardware cloth on the south and east sides, put on the gate/ramp, insulate and roof and paint the exterior surfaces of the north and west walls) for the big Wyandottes so Ian can have more room to move and a view of the world. Losing half of today to a dental appointment was not helpful.

They keep you still and in a darkened room with someone guarding the door. Because I'm overweight, I had the long tests, and with #2 since I was held captive in the hospital anyways, they did it every 2 weeks. I never tested positive, yet I'd get the fat lecture each time ... as if I wasn't already feeling crappy enough. They had me on a diet of nasty hospital foods that included a lot of kale soup, and if there was a desert, it would be a sour whole grain "cobbler". Bothpreganacies I lost 30 lbs and gained it quickly back while breastfeeding. For some reason it makes me ravenous and craving protein.
