Makes so much sense when you think about it!

Poly-Vi-sol for 30 birds is out of the question.
I gotta think more about this.
There has to be a large amount of supplement available somewhere~~~~~~~~~

I think I will use the drops I have on hand for now. Do you think it would work to crush up some tablets and put it in their feed? I am just thinking out loud. I only have 8 so I could put some crushed up pills in with the oystershell too.

You grow a lot of stuff......how about these for your chickens. Kale, Arugala, Collard greens, Broccoli. And one more food that has a lot of vitamin D- EGGS!!! or the egg yolk anyway.

It makes sense- I know the old-timey chicken keepers who lived around me always gave their hens codliver oil in winter.

GOAT PEOPLES!
I have a question about Selenium and Copper in our area. I have never needed to use a copper bolus for the goats, but I think the time is now. I am wondering how often and what were the signs that you needed to use one? I have a doe who has the trashiest coat right now.. she shed out ALL of her undercoat, I can see her skin--and it is red and angry looking. The way she shed this year is not normal for her. I have dewormed and deloused both girls last month, the other doe looks normal. I just ordered some copasure from work this afternoon. They get grass hay (that is very cruddy i might add), 1/4 cup of chow --for the vit's and minerals I thought--free feed loose goat mineral/baking soda and I stake them out when I am home for good browse. I have read that sulfur and molybdenum can inhibit copper uptake and those are common in our area.... yes?? and because of that I should be giving copper boluses? And so, if they are deficient in copper, are they probably deficient in selenium, and how the heck do I KNOW?? Is there anything else that could be causing my one doe to look so awful? Could it just be a really bad shed??
Feel free to PM me or e mail me and we won't take up important poultry space

but I know there are a couple of ya here who have a lot of goat experience here in the PNW, I do read some of the common goat sites too--Fiasco and the Goatspot for example, but I would like some info for HERE in our area.
Thanks in advance!!!

ETA: I have started giving them wheat germ oil and kelp--which I also give to the chickens and ducks.. the goats don't like it (yet) but the chickens.. I think they are actually garbage disposals with feathers... they eat ANYthing!

I know...I mean--what's the point?

I have gained 15lbs and I'm 30 weeks along now. I don't eat sugar, sweets, etc and this last test make me queasy/dizzy and feel off....I was not overweight before I got pregnant and the doctor seems to think I'm gaining weight at a good rate (slow & steady). I would HATE to have to be on insulin, if it comes to that...my mom is type 2 and my dad's diabetes is controlled by medicine.

I am hoping mine could be controlled by diet--but as far as exercise--the doctor already said I'm doing a little too much (feeding the horses, dragging hoses, shoveling/raking) and I walk about 2 miles a day just doing my job....and the longer I'm on my feet, the more swollen they become.

if your feet are really swollen its time to slow down a bit. I have had one of the 3 hr tests they found nothing but I was not pg then either. It was because i passed out. I have these issues from time to time where I pass out and they can never figure out why.

I just had one of those pass out things in april but it was a pretty bad one cuz I stopped breathing. Got a fun ride to the hospital too

YOU STOPPED BREATHING??????

Really not a good thing.

You have to do the over night starve (not even coffee) then they feed ya a sticky little cup full of glucose, and take you blood sample every half hour.
The bad part is it is BORING and HURTS!!!!!!!

Yeah...this is the 3 hour test. She said I have to fast (nothing but water) from the night before. Then they will draw my blood when I get there. Then I drink the glucose--which wasn't a cup--it was a BIG bottle of crap! Then I wait an hour, they draw my blood. Then I wait another hours, they draw my blood. And finally, another hour and another blood draw!

They can never find veins on me so I'll be getting stabbed in my hands & wrists, more than likely.

try to drink as much water as you can to hydrate yourself, it helps them find those stupid veins, I'v had to have IV's in the back of my hands before---ugh! Good luck and I pray you don't have to do bedrest. done that too 8 weeks of heck.

I give my birds greens everyday, and they have fantastic feed, and free range, but there is little sunshine.
