If someone called my house at 5:30...they would be dead...unless there was an emergency on the other end. How rude.

Are you going to Okanogan Days today? I am thinking about going...the Animal Barter Fair is in Brewster this morning at 9am, too...I thought I'd have a lot more chicks and ducklings to sell than I do.

I gotta work so no I am not going to Okanogan Days. Wished I knew about Brewster though....I have chicks to sell. One of my older chicks is trying to crow - I knew it was a cockerel anyway....rather aggressive. How often do they have the faire in Brewster?

I think I'd be happier with bears than elk: elk are more likely to be dangerous to humans, and they're like cattle in that they are capable of doing an incredible amount of property damage out of sheer size and clumsiness.

I've given up on landsacping

Have you taken a look at my BYC page? If you scroll way way way down to the bottom, you can see some of the herds coming through. They are here all year long, and unlike the bears, they don't go into torpor.

Great shot of the deer looking through the door!
Lucky you had the camera handy.
Don't cut down the wisteria though, it is way too beautiful.
If you have to, waite til fall & maybe we can dig it up & I will try to root it here...think that will work ?
Then again, it may be in your water & electrical...

Funny dog/chicken story.

We bought 2 rat zappers after having read some rave reviews. They arrived yesterday, so I told Alex to put them in the runs last night. I was looking forwards to my first fried rat, but found nothing in the traps. Then I noticed they were not baited nor turned on. Alex did exactly as he was told, he put them in the runs!

sounds like my house

So funny, speaking of rats yesterday on here, and last eve at just about dark, DH is walking back up here from his 'fort' and saw a black "pear" run from under the hatching room, across a pen and under a coop.
So he went to work with the rat traps.
We have the occasional black woods rat..they have short noses & are a bit 'slow' if ya know what I mean.
They live whereever but have holes in the ground too.
They are not fond of peanut butter nor cheese, but really like ready-made chocolate frosting.
We tried everything and the frosting worked.

These black rats look alot like Mickey Mouse

Warning: I have a shameful weakness for orange roses, so I may not be a reliable guide.

(Well, also red, pink, yellow, white, peach....especially peach...purple, and grey roses).

I LOVE all the old world single petal super aromatic types.
But I have a deep weakness for the 49's too............and I detest spikes & thorns, so have no roses..yet.
