I AM NOT HIGH MAINTAINENCE! And I am darn proud of it!

And I tired of things in my life that are high maintainence. I can take it to a certain point, but then it's just like forget it.

Oh, and by the way everyone......you should see the chicken condo that Ron has going on now! Seriously! He has 4 and if neccessary 5 coops!!! Totally jealous!!!

Oh I think we need to see photos as proof of this.

Great Job Dave!! That is an awesome skill working wood like that, very handy and bet you make some dough too??

Hey -- thanks for the kind words. I'm not really a wood worker, more of a tinker. By profession, I manage customer service and implementation for a medical-software company. I've held loads of jobs in my life time, from restaurant management to door-to-door vacuum sales, to Russian Linguist while a member of the US Army. I don't build coops for free, but I don't really make that much either. Ask Rainwolf - she'll probably tell ya she's getting a good deal

Great work!!! I'm gonna ask for a dado for my b-day and hope my DH understands that I don't want an extinct bird from the Galapagos.

I would be very impressed if your DH did get you that extinct bird. It would show a real determination to please you.
And count me as one more of the many who are VERY impressed with your building skills Dave. That is some beautiful work!

lol no! I have 5 extra cockerels already., is thor blue? someone on here was wanting a hoss son in blue.

So speaking of orps. Does anyone know if I breed a non english to an english, what the chicks will be like? Will there be a certain # of english and a certain # of non. Or just a bunch of blase' chicks?
The hatch I did from Rising Star/Carol gave me 1 blue boy but he does not have true english form. But I have some gorgeous black girls and boys that are good form. Just wondered what I would end up with.
I would also buy splash pullets from ya!!! Need to mix up my lines anyway.

you will get some that start to resemble the english more so than the american, more fluff, bit bigger heavier. they do describe them as 50% or 75% english etc when they cross them on the american lines. the more english you add the more your chicks will grow up looking like the english birds.

Didn't get as much progress as I would have liked. I cut the same sheet twice and it was still too short. Tomorrow I'll stop at the lumber store on the way home from work.

Frame is done, and I put the sheeting on the ends.

Putting the wire on the floor frame work. I made the floor frame out of a 2x4 that I ripped into two 1" and one 1 3/4".

One of the requirements is that the floor must slope to the front so the quail eggs roll forward. I'm testing with a dowel.

That seems about right. Floor installed. This is the front view. Each section will have its own door. The unit will have removable dividers ever ~24".

Next: Top sheet. Then I can engineer the dividers. I'm not sure exactly how to make those work, but I'll figure it out, once I have the top in place. I think I'll use 'channels' top and bottom. The divider will slip into the channels. The top channel will be deeper than necessary, but the divider will be a bit shorter. This should let me slip the divider up into the extra deep channel, line it up with the channel below and let it drop into place. I'll end up tinkering something that will work

Hey thanks for the info! I think Carol told me that some were already 75% or the roo was. Should be fun to see what I end up with.
They are such piggies! I have to watch my step when I take treats out because they will get right in front of my feet and trip me up if I'm not real careful!
