when I took my BR roo up there last year or was it the year before

there were roo's and hens in the pen right up front as ya drove in. now the pen is in the back Right?

he is!! and I must say somewhat intelligent! one day he decided he should be the boss and tried to flog me...I whooped his butt, chased him all over the property kickin him in the butt. then he got stuck under a wheel barrow so I grabbed him and put him on his back and grabbed him by the feathers on his head and held him...till I could breathe again lol. took a while. he thought about it again one other time...he quickly changed his mind when I came right at him. he ran. he now does his job and keeps out of my way. I walk him backwards every now and then to remind him. he doesnt hold a grudge either cause if I call them he comes running as fast as he can to see what I have and share it with the girls.
lol with all that said, one of my 12 weekers decided today that he should bite my legs or feet. he got a pass the first bite, second one he learned how to fly twice as high as he usually does. 3rd time (about 10 minutes ago) got him booted chased grabbed and locked away in a crate, he goes to the feed store tomorrow. attacking my feet and legs will not make me drop the food...

Whew - sounds like you and Hoss had a real showdown! Maybe it's best I can't have a rooster here unless I was able to take sparring lessons first. So the 12 week cockerel will go to the feed store tomorrow, then they sell him for you? Or is his fate unknown at best? He's one of the english black orps from your hatch a few months ago - but I'm guessing if he's mean he wouldn't really make a good breeding rooster, is that right? Sorry for all the questions - it's a constant learning process.

Sadie they just take them for free then sell them for a couple bucks to whoever wants them for dinner. I could give them away on CL but dont want to mess with no shows etc. this one is from some of carols eggs. more american in type so not one I would keep anyway. they are all pretty tame and follow me everywhere, I guess he thought I was like head chicken or something and maybe he could get to the top if he put me in my place. well he flunked out of school the third time around. there will always be good roosters and some bad ones. to many good ones to keep a bad one around.
Hoss and I came to an understanding because he is a nice rooster, and he learned quick. he was really sweet to be around then spring (sort of) came and he was the only rooster here. his girls would leave him to run to me so I assume he viewed me as competition and did what roosters do. so happy he isnt really stupid because I would have sent him packing to as I dont feel like watching my back everytime I go outside.

I think they're twelve weeks, more or less; I forgot to ask Tif yesterday, which was a pretty rough day pain-wise after cracking/breaking a rib and not resting it because I had work to do. The older I get the more like my Dad I am: when he broke his second hip he finished building a mile of new line fence before he went to the doctor. They are whatever age teenage chicks are when they are complete bottomless pits, is the age they are. Hungry age!

Not to white! Breed her to black, the babies will all be black and split for mottled. Breed one of those split baby boys back to her, and some of the chicks that hatch from that cross will be mottled, some will still be split. Once you have more mottled chicks, they should breed true if bred back to her. Fun project!!!!

You can also use blue and get blue mottled!!! I love the look of blue mottled cochins, I want some one day!

I have 2 black boys I have saved...incidently, one has quite a bit of white mottling on the ends of his wings.
As I recall, one of the girls I brought you had just a touch of white on her wing tips...I am thinking this is the gene
