Im going back and forth between working on RW's quail hutches and surfing for info on beekeeping.

That's more ambition than I'm likely to develop: I did some security work on the Tower of Solitude, fed the elder Wyandottes and the younger Hamburg, and washed and hung out a load of wash cloths and tea towels. Which sounds all virtuous-like until you realize I have not the foggiest hint of what we're going to have for dinner. Darned people, needing to eat all the time.

Don't you just hate that?
Just about the time when you are totally into a project or task, you have to stop and go feed people !!!
Then ya gotta do the dishes...by the time ya get back outside to get back to your FUN...
Ya gotta go back inside & cook again...geze louise!!

Cheryl, keep us all posted.
Hugs to you sweetheart!
Once again, I bet you are going to be the rock of Gibralter for the entire family...Hugs~~

Is it really cold there in winter?
Stick to pea combs then, If not, try a couple Cuckoo Marans or Black Copper Marans...you will not be disapointed.
One thing everyone needs to do when picking out a breed is to consider the weather where you live.
Frostbite can be an ugly issue to those on the Eastern & North of the state, and can get low temps here!
I keep my standard comb birds locked in the coop during the few days of 20 & 10 degree days we have....
By the same token, feather footed breeds get so muddy here it is insane...covered with clay dingle balls and have to be brought in & bathed to soften & remove the dingle balls.
If I were going to get dotties, I would get some chicks from WA4-HPoutryMom, babies from Wyatt & Wynona , both birds are on her BYC page.
Gorgeous!

"Really cold" is relative

I've lived here for 35 years. Coldest that I've ever seen it was about -15. Twice in that time span. Normal winters for us could have a week or so of single digits. We will get into the teens every winter. I will probably run power to the coops to keep the water from freezing, so heating is not really a problem.

I don't like feathered-feeted birds

The work bench came with the house. Mr H doesn't enjoy working with his hands, so it was no great sacrifice on his part. i wish he were handier.

He must be awful good lookin'.
They say if you aren't good looking, you better be handy.

If it gets to 20, limit their time outdoors to just a half hour or keep them cooped with a heat lamp on...hopefully you have insulated your coops, or condensation will breed moulds like crazy...bird's breath & moisture from poop & water fonts can make condensation in a small place awful.
Hard to heat as well, unless a bird is directly under a heat lamp..the heat is sucked away and gone.
The cold wins the contest.
Over there, I'd stick to pea comb breeds...

OK, so it is now officially Summer Break. However, feels like I am going to be doing triple time! Just filled out my calendar for the rest of the month and July. Oldest dd is starting driver's ed next week, so that's 3X a week plus one driving session a week that I have to drive her into Woodinville for. That alone filled my calendar right up! Never mind the 4-H things already on the calendar, mom's visit in July, a couple of dr appt's and birthday parties. I can't even bear to look at August right now with all the crazy fair stuff. It will be at least as full if not fuller than July!!!

now that I am thinking of it I think Debbie told me they were olive eggers If so I would be happy for any color they are. So does olive eggers mean not amerucana ?

Half Ameraucana.
But note, an Olive Egger Cock bird is essentially useless, he cannot lay eggs...
If you want an olive egger, breed a brown egg layer to a blue egg layer, then keep the pullets.

he has a lady friend that I got with him. Just trying to figure out what he is for sure so I can give him a good home.
