Their eggs are kind of pale too...

For great layers and friendly birds, I love my RIR and Australorps hens. The New Hampshire is pretty decent too. One of my EE's is an excellent layer, the other was until she went broody for 3 months and is now raising chicks.

My SLW's are pretty good foragers. Barnevelders are supposed to be good layers of a fairly dark (not marans dark) large brown eggs. Mine will be old enough to lay in about a month. They are friendly and don't seem to eat as much as my others hens. but it may be that their feeder is more resistant to spillage. It is my Sussex that I always find with her head in the foodbowl!

I had Gold laced wyandottes, Silver laced Wyandottes, and white wyandottes! They were great foragers, large, and layed just as well as the rest of my floc bac then did. I thin the only breed that I had the out layed the rest of the flock was the Leghorns...

1 of my SLW went broody. Now I had 1 of my CM go broody & she'd put up a show when I took her eggs but never pecked. I gave her some chicks to take care of. Now my SLW is broody but man is she nasty. It hurts when they peck. I have no roo so I can't just let her nest on eating eggs. I also have as many chicks as I can't handle. I have 4 chicks & plan to sell 2 as I only wanted 2 hens of this breed. Not sure what to do with the SLW, she is my best looking towards the breed as I can tell for a hatchery bird. Big, plump, small crown & color is decent (to me anyway). I just don't like that she puts on a show & peck

Last night I put her in a small wire dog crate with a board for a roost & food/water. Hopefully that will break her of the broodyness, not sure how long to do this? Problem also is with baby chicks with the other broody hen, would hearing & seeing baby chicks just make her want them even more? All in the same coop.

I hate spelling, I re-read that several times & didn't catch it till I read it already posted

Im going back and forth between working on RW's quail hutches and surfing for info on beekeeping.

That's more ambition than I'm likely to develop: I did some security work on the Tower of Solitude, fed the elder Wyandottes and the younger Hamburg, and washed and hung out a load of wash cloths and tea towels. Which sounds all virtuous-like until you realize I have not the foggiest hint of what we're going to have for dinner. Darned people, needing to eat all the time.

I was told dinner was 'scraps'. That means I have to 'wing' it. Which usually means something frozen (like wings) that I put in the oven, or left-overs cuz DW ain't cookin tonight

My aunt is in the Hospital with kidney stones... She has been there for a few days. This morning, her Husband had a massive heart attack. He is now in a coma, and is showing no responses to pain stimulis, nothing at all. I'm not sure if he is on life suport or not. This is all I know so far. But my poor Aunt has no clue as to what is going on... I just found out about this, about an hour ago. Guess Im still in shock over the news. I now Joe didnt live the healthiest lifestyle. Crab fisherman through and through, mechanic in the off season... Smokes like a chimney, drinks like a fish, heck. He uses an inhaler just so he can smoke... Ugg... Wish I could get out of this fog I'm in now...
