TUKAS???

I haven't heard anyone say that since my oldest was in preschool(13+yrs ago) Her teacher was from Texas and that is the term she used to tell them what she wanted them to put in their chairs! There were only 3 girls in the class so she had a blast with them! Thanks for the stroll down memory lane!

I am up this morning seeing my oldest 2 off to camp in ID for a week. Gonna be strange being short 2. Since I'm losing my built in sitter/driver, guess I get to go back to being the chauffeur this week!

Gonna take my extra Roos to the auction this morning and see what happens. Hope to be bringing home that blue Marans cockerel to put in with my Wheaten girls.

Gonna need a nap today!

What camp?

We have checked out the videos for camp Grizzly & camp Easton. My boys are excited about being able to go there some day.

Our oldest is on staff this year at camp Jayhawk as a CIT (counselor in training), he is having a blast.

Welcome to BYC! Lots of chicken mentors here. If you live near the Key Peninsula come on by. I only have one insulated coop. It used to be a large dog house built by a contractor so is built like a miniature house except not a lot of ventilation so can get hot in summer. Changed the door and put hardware cloth in it. Still a little warm for summer. Trying to figure the easiest way to put some vents in the double wall construction. I live in a mild area so don't have to worry about single combs getting frostbite. My single wall coops stay dry except for the mud the chickens bring in on their feet in the winter. Wish I could teach them to wipe their feet. It would be nice to have them all insulated to keep the water from freezing in the winter.

I would just like to throw blanket welcome for all of the new peeps on here.
For those needing help with things like how do I post an avatar, signature, picture etc. On the index page the first thing listed is FAQ. This will answer most questions and help walk you through them.
Also there are many questions that have already been asked and answered. To save time you can do a search for them. For example How to peel hard boiled eggs. It gets asked a lot and has been answered many times. You can just search and then don't have to wait for some body to tell you where that is.

Just trying to be helpful to the new peeps.

Have you seen what RFF does with the outdoor grass stuff? or whatever it is.. maybe she can post a picture of it again. It's pretty neat.

I only have that foil insulation in my single wall coop, it stays really dry inside. I think if you have really good ventilation things will stay warm and dry in these wet winters.

Oh and

I've got foam insulation in the west and south walls and roof of my coop-in-progress; the south and west walls will be hardware cloth in summer and have greenhouse cover storm doors.I was more worried about it being heavy enough to withstand windstorms than keeping the chickens warm, to be honest.

And,
