Meons are great for when the birds dont want to drink. My birds will eat a the mellon down to the rind. Keeps them cool and provides fluids, plus it gives them something to do.
Hope you were abe to pul them through, and you dont lose anymore!
I took one back the the coop last night, he complained but was doing great this am. The other spent the night in the house, she was eating and drinking this am. DW says the hen is still doing fine but is making the kitchen stink so it needs to get out
. Thanks for all the great information, I do believe they will make it. Today is another scorcher. Around noon the kids put 4 2liter bottles of frozen water in their pen.
My FiL in Northern California had a pheasant Farm for years.
It is easily 110 there in April, and continues even to 112-114 throughout the summer, until October it starts to cool down.
During this time, from March on, normally there is not a drop of rain.
This year was like ours here in WA--rain, storms, rain, flooding & below average temps.
But anyway, FiL set up 'misters' all along the tops of his pheasant runs, and hooked them up to the hoses.
During extreme heat, he would turn the handle, and cool spray emits.
There is extremely hard water there, so much so that we would go through 1 water heater a year until we got one with a brass do-dad in it to collect minerals.
The minerals in the water arc from 1 element to the other & creat a stalagtite of rock hard conductive minerals!!
Removing the dead water heater was difficult with the heavy weight of the minerals inside.
If you have that kind of water, you may have difficulty keeping the little mister nozzles from plugging~~
But they work!!
He also keep shade cloth over the runs.
Hope this helps!
