Glad the baby is fine! Those anti-contraction drugs sure are fun! Initially I was on indocin by IV, and starting at 28 weeks I went into real labor a few times, so then I got injections of terbutaline or something like that. It stopped the contractions, but they failed to first mention to me that it makes your heart race, so I had a panic attack thinking I was about to have a heart attack! I'm a but surprised they stopped your labor at just about 38 weeks. 38-42 weeks is considered full term. Olivia was born by C-section at 35 weeks. She was tiny, and had no sucking reflex then, but she was breathing on her own. I would have preferred it had she come out a week or 3 later. One nice thing about being born early, their lungs are not developed enought to be screamers. She was nearly 2 months old before she could cry loudly.
If you make it till Tuesday, your baby will be born on my birthday
We need some more good things associated with that day, right now, it starts with the Greco-Persian battle of Artemesium in 430 BC, the atomic bomb in Nagasaki, Nixon's resignation, and Jerry Garcia's Death (Greatful Dead). About the only good thing is Betty Boop's public debut in 1930.
Yeah I have no idea why they stopped the contractions--other than the doctor looked "busy and bothered" to be there....LOL I'll have to see tomorrow if I've progressed any more.
Yeah....the contractions were pretty horrible...they were 4-6 minutes apart, 40-60 seconds long and "coupling" which meant there was no break in-between.
The stuff they have me on is a heart medication that actually LOWERS your blood pressure...mine was pretty high when I went in (I was in a lot of pain & anxious) but after I settled in it was 110/64. Before I left the hospital, it was 100/60. I was told that I'd be dizzy and to get up slowly to avoid tipping over. I tend to spring out of bed because once I get my momentum--I don't want to stop it!
I had coupling in labor for DS that is when I swore at everyone in the room that I did not give a *(&#* what my birth plan was, I was getting an epidural!
I agree, I think it is too often on the Dr's schedule and not when your baby would come naturally. The way I see it is everyone is done at a little diiferent time, and so long as you are full term (I was told that is 37 weeks but read elsewhere it is 38), everything is moving along as it should, and there is no added risk to mom or baby, let baby come when it is good and ready to, be that 37.5 weeks or be it 42 weeks. My itty bitty 90 lb SIL gave birth naturally to a 10 lb 2 oz baby boy, 2 stitches, hardly any pain on his due date. Less than 2 years later, she was induced at 41 weeks, tore badly, lots of pain, and that boy was under 6 lbs. Clearly he needed more time in the incubator than his brother, but the Dr. had his tickets to Fiji and was not going to have one of his colleagues do the delivery. Of course I say this, and I had 2 C-sections, though not by choice.
Get yourself a big tall glass of iced lemonade, put your favorite movies on, put your feet up and relax and enjoy these last few days. In a short time you will no longer feel so hot and bloated, stretched out, tired and cranky. I know a lot of people told me I would feel worse after the birth because I would be so tired and depressed. Thankfully, that did not happen to me. Other than the incision pain, I felt a million times better than I did when I was pregnant, elated, and full of energy. I hope your after-birth experience is good like that. I think it will be, just a gut feeling.
