Ouch! sounds like one of those things thst makes you mumble over and over, that which does not kill us only makes us stronger. I have done a lot of that this summer myself.

Im very happy to only have a displocated shoulder. Well its not dislocated now, but it could have been MUCH worse... Stopped traffic in both directions before I was able to catch that darn pony! Last summer I knocked myself out with a T-post pounder, putmyself in the hospital with that one.

Wow, can't imagine experiencing that! Ouch!! Please take it easy.
I starting to think it might be hazardous hanging out with this crew! Hope it's not contagious!

Take care!

lol Life in general is hazardous! lol Mines just a little more so due to working with animals who are many times my weight. lol Its a risk I take doing what I do. No matter how friendly and tame a horse is, it is still potentially lethal.

My Black Australorp layed her first egg on Sunday and for the previous 2 weeks I was checking the box multiple times per day. And yes, only chicken folks seem to understand. Today I had a group of friends here, most thought my girls were kinda cute, some even ventured to pet one. But one friend got really excited and when I suggested we check for an egg she got REALLY excited! Luckily there was a warm green egg there... I let her take it home. She was SO exicited!!!

I call it the Long wait! And it is torturous!

Oh. I forgot. Someone is giving me a couple silkys... Guess they are getting picked on in their current living arangment. Hopefully they will be happy here. Now to get the pen set up.

I don't know how soon a Sussex is suppose to start laying:idunno. But don't EE's lay a bit later then most chickens. I thought it was like between 6 & 7 months

How about it you people with EE's ??????????? when do they start to lay ??

My youngest girls were five months old last friday. I have been getting a egg from one (maybe two) chickens I think its from my Gold sexlinks ( Annie &Oakley)

Post pounders are tools of the devil. I got a messy head cut from just getting nicked by the very edge of one.

Knowing how to reseat a shoulder is fine when you're out in the wilderness, but if you've got any health insurance at all you should go get it looked at to be sure there's not badly torn ligaments. Speaking as someone who did the power reseat more than once, the long-term pain and limited mobility is worth avoiding.

Having stock out on the road is 100% the scariest thing about farming, because about 1 in ten drivers think that they should lean on their horn and speed on through, having apparently never seen the result of a car/large mammal collision. Idiots.

my EEs, from Privett hatchery, started laying between 19 and 22 weeks

but they might be earlier than most, since I had them on higher-protein game bird feed, supplemented with black oil sunflower seeds; so they grew, developed, and feathered out a little bit ahead of the schedule reported by most with EEs

Welcome to the thread. I hope that you will join the great group we have here on this thread.

Thanks! I hope to get to know you guys a bit better. It is interesting to hear all of your guys' chicken stories, I will try to post some of my own as well.

I got ahold of Nickers amazingly fast for as wild as she was acting. Part of it was the spook from the coyote, the other part is because she reverts back to being farrel if left in the big field for to long. And 3 days 2 nights is to long for her still... Her owners put her out on 40 acres for 8 months last year. So she is a bit on the wild side, but getting better slowly.

And yes. Most people, unless they live in a rural area. Dont have the slightest clue how to react when a large mammal "be it domestic or wild" is out on the road.
That was the first time one of my horses got onto the road. And I hope it is the last.

I would love to have it looked at, but like many other people now days, cant afford health insurance. I choose for my daughter to have medical over myself or my husband...

A new chicken owner in the making?
ya.gif

I passed on the chicken addiction to a sweet young teenage girl and her family! I feel like a pusher!

NOT!
I went to see her set up and chooks yesterday after work and they have a great setup and fantastic backyard for them to free range!
I was so proud!
But I am still waiting for eggs.
pop.gif

Mine are 21-22 weeks, so I may be waiting a little while longer.

But their combs are getting red and 1 or 2 are squatting.

Well, guess I'll check again tomorrow.
