So highly virtuous this morning, got out of bed when my alarm went off and ready to get all my morning chores done before 11am, by the power of denial. This is because, if I am to get to the Fartmer's Market and Radience and whatever, I need to do it before 1pm, when my daughter is going to her young man's work picnic. Oh, August, you so complicated!

I'd like to note, although Kankake may have seen this already, that there will be a community yard sale in Yelm on August 26-27 to benefit the Yelm Library: I haven't yard saled for ever, except for my yearly pilgrimage to the Panorama City Patio Sale last month. The Yelm Library is a cause near and dear to my heart, dating back to the days when it was eight glass-fronted fumed oak bookcases in the reception area of the city hall/temporary lock-up, open for four hours on Saturday morning and presided over by the best human being I've known in my life, Jeanne Grinde (of blessed memory: if there were Methodist saints, she'd be the first).

Well, where is everyone ?
Talking to DH last eve, I told him to stay an extra day, he is sooo tired from all the running around he is doing in CA...I told him to stay an extra day & just SIT with his Dad on the porch and BE WITH DAD !!
He can see his kids & grandkids (hopefully) any time, but recently widowed Dad may be gone any time.
That's how I look at it.
After DH's Mom contracted the staph after a surgery & was dead a week later, you see how our elders can be gone from our lives so quickly, without any sign of illness.
So..I have not heard from him this morning.
And usually he calls at 8 A.M.
So...I have guessed that DH is either on the road coming home, OR
sleeping in like I told him to do.
Hope everyone is doing OK.
RR:::::::::::::::::: What a super bummer about Hoss !!!!!!!!!! I bet it just broke your heart!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have seen, so far, 4 mammoth pumpkins in the jungle of leaves..each must weigh at least 50 pounds, today
gig.gif

I swear, they grow 3-6 inches in circum a day!
I will measure one today just to see...maybe I can set it on a scale, and weigh each day...that would be fun !

I used to love garage & yard sales (to both visit & hostess) but lately, I hate cleaning up the mess & putting all the leftovers away.
Ain't worth it.

I am finishing the Otter painting this morning & trying to get started on another.
The Fair entries have to be there by the 22nd......................

Also will enter alot of vegies, always fun.
I won grand champion of all the vegies last year with my Romano Pole beans, which are almost ready to pick even as I write..and this comes as my snow peas are still going...
th.gif

I have put several hundred pounds of processed vegies in my freezer so far...
Brussel sprouts are 8" high and romano beans are next.
Beans can be canned also, with a small strip of bacon YUMMMMMMMMMMM!!!

I have dehydrated quite a bit this year so far, too.
Scallions, mint, thyme, greek oregano, dill and have a few herbs still growing & then will be harvested.
I have also dehydrated about 5 pounds of basil.
I have also made over 20-pints of pesto, in the freezer.

Weird, this volunteer tomatillo looks nothing like the ones I planted, those resemble a cherry tomato.
Weird.

(just overlooked part of it for you) So here is the english version for the new peeps (sorry) Lavender Rhode Island Red Bantams. I have not seen them but talked to a man who has. He said they are VERY lav. and I know the guy who is making them. Hope this helps.

Yesterday I loaded a bunch of my metal and went and sat on the side of the road. Only had a couple of lookers. I discovered I would have been better off with a bunch of ol'e rusty tools and junk. But I did make a very good poultry connection who I know does well at shows. Did you know Brian Decker lives about 5 miles from me. CL this is the little man you see with the felt hat. from what I hear very tough competition.

Sounds like him, maybe ?
Ask him if he does the Chehalis yard bird sales often ?
This guy I met was maybe 5 foot tall...ballcap, big truck that the tail gate hit him at the armpits (

) and had boxes of the RIR B's that were gorgeous !!
Well, I gotta get some work done & finish this painting and try to get it framed..although, the previous mat was light green (

) and this painting really needs a light periwinkle or slate gray mat....my mat cutter & boxes of mat board are all at parents's in Elma.
So framing this may have to waite.
I have to go, have a "general Alarm " going on outside.

Oh, also forgot to tell ya, DH said Dad still has 2 boxes/supers in the orchard, and it is HOT and DRY there, nothing blooming..so his Dad is feeding sweetened water to the bees.
DH said bees are all over the porch looking for the treat,
Dad just loves it.
Anyway, he said we can have the hives...and as I spoke to DH, he did not know if these boxes have active hives in them....
ep.gif

We were under the impression that the hives Dad had were empty.......................
ep.gif

Still do not know..the bees he is feeding may be coming from somewhere else.
They had a big swarm move into a vacant house a good 10 acres away, and lived there for years.
Heard it was exterminated, but who knows.
I told DH to shut the hive bodies last night, and load them up, there is plenty of pollin here!!!!!!

One more thought to ponder today:

NewFoundland (and many other ancient cultures) folklore states that IF there is a heavy crop of Rowan berries, there WILL be a very hard winter.
Uh-oh..............
