We started buying hay from this guy during the end of winter. The first 3 loads were very nice. Had no issues what so ever. While loading the hay I turned away 6 bales that were obviously bad. I asked to purchase hay out of the newer nicer stck in the barn, as it was plainly obvious that it was better quality, and he refused, saying he wanted to get rid of the older stuff before selling the new cutting... And I do understand the thought process behind that, but... Come on really! Im a repeat customer, have given him over $800 this year alone, I would think that he would be a little more willing to help out his return customers... So far he is the only hay dealer that I have run into this issue with. Everyone else I have come across is more than willing to replace moldy bales, or at least give a refund... More than anything it is frustrating.

I would take it all back to the farmer and get my money back.... cows can eat moldy hay but if its really bad I wont feed it to them. some probably do but I dont

So far we have called the farmer every day for the past 4 days... And have not gotten ahold of him yet. Im thinking that returning it all isn't going to happen. And with as much mold as there is, it looks like someone dusted every flake with baby powder, pullit apart and spores fly every where. So Imthinking I will compost it, give some away for erossion control, or whatever non feed purpose people want it for, and just be done with it. Now to quikly find good hay to put up for the winter...

Hay prices are WAY high this year... Im glad I only own 1 of the 4 I have here...

We are switching the horses over to alfalfa, and now my sisters horse has hives.

So lacy will stay on Timothy. This little paint pony really needs to go back to her owner, as I can not do anything with her until her feet have been fixed the rest of the way. Poor thing is so sore from bad trimmings that she limps on any surface...

Would it be possible to go to his farm and talk to him? Also are you going to straight alfalfa if so why? Hope you can get tthis all taken care of.

I supose we could drive out there un-anounced, but I would think that to be quite rude...

We are switching to Alfalfa but not just alfalfa. They are still getting grass hay along with it. The reason we are going to alfalfa is that it is cheaper than Timothy, better nutrient qualities than just grass hay. And you need to feed less of it. At the moment my horses are getting 1/2 flake of alfalfa and a full flake of orchard grass per meal.

Around here Timothy sells for $20 a bale, Alfalfa is $16, orchard grass is $17, just grass hay out of local fields runs anywhere from $3.50 - $7 a bale... Once my tack/feed shed is completed, I will be bringing in a ton of Alfalfa, and a ton of grass hay. My horses will get mostly grass as filler and something to munch on, and 1/2 flake of alfalfa at each meal for nutrients. During the winter the horses will get 1 full flake of alfalfa per meal along with the grass... Oh and of course the little grain that they get.

Hi folks just checking in....

Mom and I have been putting up jam/jelly's like crazy....
We have so far made (equivalent) 15 quarts of jam and we are just getting started. (60 1/2 pints)
So far we have made Salal, Oregon grape and Creeping raspberry ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubus_hayata-koidzumii ) jams.
Going to go pick some more berries today...

Hope ya all are doing good and see ya soon!

Would anyone be interested in purchasing my Brinsea eco 20? I paid $189.00 for it with shipping, used it twice, it worked great especially for a newby hatcher such as myself!

I am finding myself in a situation where I am without work for another week...

That meens that I have no cash to live off of for 3 weeks. No worries about the critters here though. They are all set, plenty of feed to go around for another month.

Anyways if anyone is interested, please PM me for my asking price and pictures.

Thanks guys!
