Water additives?

Do any of you add anything to the flocks water? ACV or Chlorine ?

If so -- why? and what is the ratio?

Thanks

This morning, a woman from Enumclaw came and took away my two extra Spitz cockerels, and a couple of Spitz pullets. She'd ordered some Spitz from Cackle Hatchery this spring, but they sent Hamburgs which died like flies. She was very excited and happy. We understand that, don't we?

It's going to be a lot quieter with only two cockerels instead of four. At least, it will be quieter when Blondie stops calling out looking for the other two.

I really wonder about hatchery Hamburgs which are apparently so fragile: mine have apparently got constitutions of iron, and reflexes on ninja level. Suzzy took a huge bright-orange spider apart and ate it, starting with removing and discarding the manidbles and venom sacs, in under five seconds.

Of course they're supposed to be flighty, and the only "flighty" behavior the three pullets show is moving exactly one inch out of reach when I try to pet them (Elvis on the other hand is a bit of a freak-out specialist; I'm hoping he'll be less goony when he moves in with the girls).

Wow, hard to believe there is a 21 year old out there who hasn't had their 'first taste' before 21. It's was a losing battle with mine and I personally don't know any other parent who has been successful at it. Till now. Congratulations!

Thank you Im very proud of him. He's such a good boy ( he does have his time's) I think a lot of it is he was homeschooled and didnt have a lot of peer pressure to be cool. I tried to teach him to be him self and hold on to that. Plus most of his friends dont drink that I know of. Put I do have a older son and know they can hide it very easily...

Happy Birthday to your young man!

Its me DD's birthday as well! I woke her up by singing happy birthday! lol All she could do was smile! Love my little 3 year old! Dont think I have time to fully catch up yet. Gotta get the pinata finished, painted, and stuffed! Whew! I dont remember them being so time consuming to create...

Hello fellow Washantonians. I live in the Wedgewood area of Seattle near University Village. My Gilrfriend and have started our first flock of hens (5) as of yesterday!!! I'm well on my way to having the coop finished. Just wanted to poke my head in and say Hi!

Ya done good. Wish him happy birthday for me.

My younger son's 21st birthday was memorable. He was walking across the UW campus, and saw a man dousing himself with gasoline. My poor son was seconds too late to stop him. He actually had his hands on the guy when he set himself on fire. It was horrible.

That's awful! How do you get over witnessing something like that? At least he knows he was not just a bystander but did try to help the guy, if there is any comfort in that.

Jen, if you need eggs to put under your broodies ... I'd love to see what mine hatch out as ...

EEs from Privett ... pullets are your basic duckwings, roo is kinda special, is carrying either Columbian or Dominant White, which is why I want to see what chickies look like (I posted a pic a couple weeks back)

Dana (SadieSue) has some of mine under her broody, should be hatching within the next week or so ... but I have lots of eggs, getting five or six a day and I'm the only one in the family eating eggs ... got pink, olive-drab, turquoise, aquamarine, and 2 different shades of green

I've been adding both --- tablespoon of ACV per gallon; 2 tablespoons of "mixture" per gallon (mixture = 1 cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water)

easy since the waterer holds one gallon ! so we put the tablespoons of "mixture" and of ACV, in the water-cooler before we add the water (which is well water with no additives in it)

why?? because we get a lot of wild birds here (their leavings may have all sorts of stuff in it), and we have found that our chickens occasionally have runny poo ... it is MUCH easier to scoop the solid bits out of the sand in the coop, than wait for the runny stuff to "pancake" and dry out somewhat

would rather add these as preventative measures, than have to go get medicinal stuff ($$$) to add to try to nurse them back to health

in the run, I've been finding that SLUGS are eating most any poo overnight .. at last a good use for slugs ! and the slugs are out of there before daybreak when we open up the coop and let the chickens into the run
