I wonder if it would work to build a "crawl space" under your coops, and install the kind of heat tape used to keep pipes from freezing? or look into what they sell as "radiant floors"

or get a Brinsea EcoGlow -- those are usually sold for young chicks but can't see why it wouldn't work also as a roost space for banties

Hey, those are all really good ideas. I wonder if the EcoGlow would be safer than a heat bulb? that way I could have double use. Also we get negative temperatures and it will be insulated. I just need to make sure that they stay warm. I like the radiant heat idea.

Where does the new owner of his mom live? I would love to have another baby from her.

I would just be thrilled to bred her to Dun Goin Steady:

nope, not a Manx

bobcats have been known to breed with domestic cats -- some of those are the foundation stock behind the cats being bred as "pixie bobs" ... the breeders call the crosses "Legend Cats" since apparently no one has actually SEEN the matings, merely the offspring

(one strain of which originated right around here --- and that breeder really wanted Rug for her breeding program but he had already been neutered before he adopted us ... just showed up during a storm one night; one of our neighbors had been feeding him but quit because Rug sprayed on everything)

am sure this one was part bobcat because of his very large and muscular hind legs, his "chops", and his personality -- he walked like a wild cat (not a feral but a true wild), was intensely devoted to two of us and would not speak to anyone else (hid in the brambles when he wasn't right with us in the house) --- and his coloration was unusual, basic orange tabby BUT with aquamarine eyes --- not Siamese type blue, not white housecat type blue -- only other cat I ever saw with eyes like that was a cougar

Years ago when we were kids, like in our pre-teens, DH's Mom had a big Manx crossed with who-knows-what that was the spitting image of a Bob Cat and was about 30 pounds.
It was huge!
It was also not very friendly to kids........

It's one of those things that I remember and then think "that sounds like something out of a horror movie." The dogs belonged to some people who had just moved into a McMansion up on the ridge (I've taken Hallerlake through there to look at the ridiculous lack of landscape design and distinguished architecture) in a neighborhood with covenants against building fences or kennels, who'd "moved to the country so their dogs would have room to roam." My way of looking at it, if you want your dogs to roam the countryside, use your money to buy a good chunk of countryside and fence your dogs in, don't buy a 5000 sq ft three bedroom four car garage house on a half-acre lot with no fences and let them roam land you don't own.

I don't remember going through there. You must have gone with someone else.

No, it was you: nobody else has come down and driven me around, although it's been a few years- before you married Mr. Z. This is the development with the horrendous rockscape in front of a faux Craftsman double bungalow, with pink and green granite and lot of red-leafed barberry and miniature Spirea. And the weird ranch/ rambler with a walkway out to a gazebo with full exposure to muzzle noise from the Fort included in its 360 degree view. The whole subdivision is like one bad design decision after another, and the covenents demand green lawns all summer, with many of the lots including slopes greater than 20 degrees on Everson class soils.

Also: Miguel, Ruby, Griz: things I'm trying not to think about too much.

OK, fun pictures here.
We just got back from picking up Fair entries so snapped a few pics.
First is the bags of Beans & tomatoes I processed yesterday.
Tomatoes made 6 quarts of stewed/tomatoe soup with green chilis, onions & spices, a great lunch on a snowy day with crusty bread.
3 days ago I made 24 pints of slasa called "Texas Caviar" with tomatoes, black eyed peas, onions, green chilis, jalapenos & corn & diced cucumber, water bathed.
The 13 pounds of green beans went into the freezer in 16 quart freezer bags...............

In 2 days I will have the same pickings.
Here is the Pumpkin entered into the Fair, 65 pounds, and have 5 more here growing !

We have to roll it onto a beach towel & lift all 4 corners to pick it up!
* This is the "sick squash" Illia saw the leaves of, which turn whitish if evenings fall below 60 degrees F.
Otherwise they are growin

g & adding on 10-15 pounds a week!!

A closer shot of both Tom & his ribbons.
He took Grand Champion & hen took Reserve Grand Champion, I guess, and he first & she second.
Here is my """Rye Tailed""" (NOT!)
BW Ameraucana Cockeral:

He would not stop pacing in circles and flipping his tail to the left, then straight, then left, then straight.
The *&$#@$#! Judge labeled him as "Rye Tail" oxymoronic on a WHEAT-ten

My sister, who is not into poultry, said my Turkey is the uglist bird she has ever seen, and wondered what the loosers look like....LOL!!!!!!!

Bye, gotta go to town!

That Turkey is soooooooooooooooooo cute!!!
lol.png

What a sweet bird, too..and they made the most weird noises when they got home to their pens...so happy he displayed long & hard & made trilling googly noises for 15 minutes.
You can really tell when a turkey is happY!

Also want to add, a guy at the show has free to good home:

2 free "Silver Bald Head Tumbler Pigeons" what ever they are..love their noises & cooing..free.
his name is Eldon and I have his phone #.he special ordered these birds live through the post from a breeder and now finds he cannot keep them.
OK bye again!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe I will look up a pic of some & post here.

I must have blotted the horror from my memory.

Here are my two roos. The one with the lighter beard is someones dinner but have chicks from him. The Blue bearded one is the one I kept only because I was trying to get chicks from him at the same time I needed to cut back on one of them. Cheryl decided not to get a Blue. If you ever decide you don't want to breed brother to sister let me know still up for a trade but have new eggs in the bator from 2 different breeders and one is peachicks with some nice Blue eggs. Can't wait for the hatch.
