I'm sewing a saddle today for one of my EE - the roos prefer her, and her back is just starting to look a little roughed up. I think she has stopped laying, either that or has a nest somewhere in the yard that I have not discovered. She is behaving normally, her usual feisty self; always the first to grab any snacks I throw out to them and she chases off anyone who comes near when she eats.
I have to get rid of one of my Barnie boys. The bigger boy bit me hard the other day when I was petting my BO hen under her wings by her shoulders. (She does not let the roos mount her, still thinks its supposed to be a shoulder rub. She runs up to all humans, squata and is very vocal which makes all the roosters come running. This is the same silly hen who chases the John Deere tractor around, and squats for it no matter who is driving.) The roo drew blood from my thumb - looks like fang marks with blue around it.
My other Barnie roo was the runt and is not quite as handsome. He chases down the hens, but whenever he mounts one, my Orpington roo runs over and jumps on him as if he's the hen. Maybe I need to get rid of them all.
He mounts some of the others but he thumps her on the head with is beak really hard when he catches up with her.
SHe will squat, and he will still peck her hard!
I wouldn't want to put up with that either. So now she is scared of him.
I am going to watch tomorrow for awhile and see if I can tell if it will get better.
I just don't want him to injure her.
It almost seems like he doesn't like her and shoos her away from the group at times.
