Thank you everyone for such a fun party! I was so glad to meet those that I hadn't, and see again those who I had. It was so great to be in the same room with other chicken lovers. I didn't feel so out of place about my crazy chicken obsession. Love that! Like Imp said, WAY too much food, but it was all soooo good! Wonderful food, wonderful people, what more could you ask for? Thanks again everyone for making it such a success!

Have a great week!
Kim

It was so nice chatting with everyone that made it to the party today.

It is nice to put faces to the names we read about here.

Sorry we couldn't have gotten there a bit earlier to have chatted more.

We would definitely like to get over to see Eagles aviary. Younger DS is somewhat interested in possibly raising pheasant and it sounds like you have a variety.

We so wish we would have had a way to incubate those runner duck eggs! Maybe next time

DS and I have talked about getting some ducks and if they hatched here maybe we would have less trouble convincing dh that more winged friends are good

And that metal chicken is just so cool!! DS said the craftsperson must have a blow torch and was admiring it too.

We would definitely be up to a summer gathering. Now who was it that offered their yard on the river? Is there camping or an inexpensive clean motel nearby?

Now onto a different subject...
We have one of our new chicks that is just a meanie to the others.
rant.gif
We had to put it in isolation because it keeps pecking at the other chicks eyes. Not just little pecks but like it is trying to pull their eyes out.

It is already 2 weeks old and it hassn't stopped. We put it back in with the other chicks on and off to see what will happen but it doesn't take long for it to walk over and attack one of the others so we swoop in and put it back in it's own space. We were hoping it would out grow it but it doesn't look like it will.

Does anyone have any ideas how to get it to stop? We are about ready to see if we can find a home that only wants 1 chicken. We just don't have room to house it on it's own forever. Oh, and we got it from a hatchery and it is supposed to be an Ameraucana but is probably an EE. (I would post a pic but haven't figured out how yet.)

If you can keep it isolated for a week or more, then maybe try to put it back in. Or keep it seperate for as long as you can, and when you put it back in with the others at an older age it will be the one on the bottom of the pecking order. I would just keep trying, but go longer on the isolation. That is just my take on it.

Sometimes I really hate living sooo far way. Even compared to other people within the state.

I can't wait till we do that again! I wouldn't change a thing.
Does anyone know if chickens like cake?
I'm keeping the cobblers from Imp though.
Oh, now Maple says the cake is hers. Never mind.

Well we got home at 9:00 but had to do the chicken check and gather eggs then unload things before I could get my chicken fix for the night.

Yes KIM did a great job and thanks very much to her. We had a blast and look forward to more. Sorry to those who had things come up and hope all works out well and to those who OPTED out you really missed a great time !!!

uplate I cut that chicken out with my plasma cutter and the coloring was just done by heating, the different colors are made by different temps.

Well we really enjoyed the afternoon. The food was great and at least 7 of my neighbors are sharing the cobbler that Russ made. I am looking forward to having some in the morning. The group was very enjoyable to meet talk to in person. I still wish that a few more had been able to attend, but it leaves me with the being to meeting with them in the future. I really appreciate all the work that Kim and her husband Jeff went to, too make the potluck such a success.

So far owning chickens this time has been made even more enjoyable than the last time I owned, because of having this wonderful group that exists here on the Washington Thread of BYC.

Not sure of exact distance or anything, but it takes me an hour just to get to Olympia before heading on up in that direction. It usually takes me several hours when I go to Seattle area. A lot has to do with the bad traffic on I-5, I suppose, but still, I have to figure quite a drive if I go up that way. I'm down in Mossyrock.

LaSombra you are about 10 miles east of me. It was 110 miles for us and just a little over 2 hours drive. BUT SO WORTH IT !!!!!

Again I would like to say thank you to everybody that helped make this happen. We had a great time. It was so nice to finally meet you all.
AND THE FOOD WOW !!!!! you people really went all out.
Thanks so much
Rob
