It's tough when you have a likeable roo that you have to re-home isn't it? I lucked out when I found a home for my mixed breed boy. His biggest advantage was his size. His new owner wanted to use him for breeding.
If I hadn't found him a home through BYC, Craigslist was my next option. I've heard even the roos go quickly there, but...

HA! I WISH they went quikly on craigslist! I have two posted for free! One person showed up when I wasnt home, but nothing sence then. Had them on there for 2 months now!

The black AM cockeral was being overly agressive to my Wheaten pullets, so I threw him out of the coop. He's very friendly to peolple, just a little rough on the young girls.

There is a lady that just called me that wanted my Wheaten Am Cockerel, but he got picked up last night.

Maybe she would be interested in an Ameraucana of yours? PM me your number and I can call her and leave it. Maybe she will call?
At least my little Max went to a good home just down the street! She wants to breed him, and was sooo happy with him. That made it a little easier. But I will miss him.

did you post ameracauna and ameracauna mix hatching eggs on craigslist?

nope, mine are EEs, neither Ameraucana nor Araucana .... Privett calls them "Americanas" but thee and me, we know they are EEs

for some reason I can't post on Craigslist --- maybe I got blackballed last year ... had a personal dispute with a tenant, who might just have done something like that

I just got rid of my Cockerel, I hated to do it, but my BR was going to lose part of her scalp soon if I didn't. A lady just down the raod came and got him and is going to breed him. She was so happy. Craigs list was easier. Everyone here pretty much always has too many roos and hatches chicks all of the time! Lol!

oh good !

I know my roo needs to have a few chips taken off his shoulder -- as you can see, he sires beautiful chicks, and he's a great yard ornament all to himself ... am hunting for a good sized fish net so I can try the upside down camp with him, or the wrap-and-hood thing ... he's awfully spry, much more of a broken field runner than I am

Had Rainwolf and her mother over this afternoon for a pleasant visit. Darlene and Mr. Hallerlake shared adventures in antiquing. Rainwolf pointed out that Blondie was doing the courtship dance for one of his girls. I don't know if he's never done it before, or if I just didn't notice before.

Since I'll probably never get to witness that for myself, what does the courtship dance look like? Are roosters better dancers than most men? (Before any guys take offense, you know I'm only joking - kinda.)

They usually drop a shoulder and kind of walk really close around the female, then she usually squats and he mounts. It makes the whole thing much easier for the hen/pullet. Some roosters don't dance, they just try to jump on and it can get sort of violent. But this way its much nicer and more gentlemanly.

Mine all do the dance when I throw snacks out or they find a cluster of ripe berries. All the girls come running over and the roos let the girls eat the snacks. One of my barnies even took a bread-crust to a shy gal who was standing off to the side afraid to join the party!

But when it comes to mating, they aren't so nice. The generally grab em on the run by the comb and jump on. One of the barnie roos is always the first out of the barnie coop. I feel sorry for all the hens then, they stand in the doorway not wanting to be the first one out because she will always be raped by him. Eventually the secont roo pushes through and one of the hens gets pushed down the ladder.
