I'm wondering how the metal applique would effect the function of the bell; that's the kind of think that can keep the metal from actually ringing!

It very much depends on the metal. The crystal structure of the metal matters a whole lot more than the shape. Old bell makers put raised lettering on the bells, for example the Liberty Bell. Ever heard an anvil ring? I cannot think of a less acoustically shaped thing than an anvil.

Ugli Fruit is actually a type of Citrus.

The melon recipe sounds interesting, but I'm no drinker and have no wine around. Is it going to taste or be much alcoholic?

Sorry about the ugly fruit. I know that I have seen this fruit before, just can't remember where.

I'am a non-drinker also, so when I want to try a reciepe with alcohol in it I have to go buy, most of them you cook it and the (A) is burned away, but in this one there is some very slight, wine is very slight 10-12% in (A) then devide it in half. I think that it is more refreshing than (A) tasting, like a cool splash for your tounge when its warm, then we live were it can get very warm in summer,
90 to 110 sometimes but not this summer 100 high temp. I usually only serve 2 or 3 melon scoops at a time.

My uncle was a horseshoer and I love the sound a anvil makes.

Anvils ring because they are single pieces of metal which vibrates as a unit.

I was refering specifically to a piece of metal welded to the bell, not cast as an integral piece of it as the Liberty Bell or for that matter the full ring of bells Dorothy Sayers describes in The Nine Tailors (which are part of the larger crystalline structure of the whole bell).

An applied decoration interferes with the propagation of sound waves at its points of attachment; additionally, metal with a different crystalline structure vibrates at a different essential frequency which causes muffling by interferance.

Ok, need a quick answer to a dumb question. I was given a Little Giant 3 gallon waterer that has a black plastic handle on top, and a galvanized feeder with a wire handle. After seeing what a mess they made in the coop with the shavings in their food and water, I plan to hang them today. I have googled this all morning, and can't find the details, just "hang feeders at back level." Ok, but with what?
Rope or chain? I think chain would be easier to put up, take down and adjust. A hook in the ceiling joist is simple, but how do I attach the chain to the feeder or waterer. The feeder would probably be easy, just open the link, attach, and close chain link. But the waterer? With the big plastic handle, I don't know if the links would go around it, and if they did, wouldn't it slide to one side, then hang crooked and leak? Maybe it just needs to go up on bricks? Help!

Go read the Girlfriends book, have a good laugh, pick up some tricks and the baby will be here before you know it...then the next thing you know, he will go on the yellow twinkie bus riding to MIDDLE SCHOOL!!
Yes, mine just went to JH today and I can just see him on the bus going to K just yesterday. sob sob.
I took him to school all through elementary school and now I feel like an empty nester almost. sob sob.

Time flies.

Yes, the GF guide to pregnancy book was a good, easy read. When we did the hospital tour/registration the nurse stated something like, it goes fast. One day he is born. The next week he is 5.
