I've been giving myself a crash course in chicken genetics. It would have helped if the site I was using would save and recall the results of various crossings like it was supposed to, but it wouldn't.
As it turns out, I will have sex linked chicks when I cross my Spitz and Brabanters, but I will not be getting rid of any day old cockerels. I will need to save the best and most Brabanter like cockerel to cross back to his aunts. I will need to save the most Spitz like (ie. beardless) pullets to cross back to Fritz. Sounds like Appalachia, doesn't it? I will also be getting rid of any bearded pullets, and any beardless cockerels as soon as they become obvious. I will be getting rid of bearded cockerels, but not until they're old enough to assess (and eat if necessary).

I just want to reassure you that dawng has found a GOOD home for her little Australorp "Panda"

. Panda will be having cottage cheese,tomatos and black sunflower seeds for dinner tonight and watermelon for desssert

Oh....I am not dumb. I figured as much when you said you PM'd her! Lol! I am glad you gave her a good home. Makes me feel better. But seriously..... you really have to learn the subtraction side of chicken math. You are going tobe over run with chickens! Oh yeah, you already are!!!!

My BR is not doing very well. I think her reproductive issues have caught up with her. If she gets worse I may need your help in putting her out of her misery. You willing?

Congrats Ron! I'm sure she'll fit right in with your ladies! How are my grandbaby chicks doing? Or have they moved on to new homes?

Beards, or lack thereof, are obvious by six weeks, if not sooner. I will be getting rid of all gold pullets as soon as possible.

Don't you love to see the mamas teach their chicks! So adorable - and protective when the other girls are around.

When I came home from work today; I found Miss Juno had knocked over the wood that was blocking the chicks from going down the ramp and taken them all down the ramp and into the small run, scratching away

Of course - none of them could get back up so I got to help move everyone up for bedtime. I still cannot tell which chick was acting so fragile yesterday
