Uhhh, what? My Sussex is Light not Speckled. She's a Greenfire line girl, HUGE bird, way bigger than any Speckled Sussex wished it could be.

Light Sussex are Wheaten, Columbian, and Silver.

My Shamo is Wheaten, Barred, and Gold.

Together they'll make males that are gold/silver (yellow) Columbians with a possibility of being barred since my male is 1/2 barred. This boy got that chance.

These are two of my three Sussex girls for a visual

So imagine their color but yellow, white, and orange barred.

This is the chick right now though. Just a wee little baby.

I wish....I'm off work until November 1st (was supposed to be December 6th) but we can't afford to live without me getting paid for that long.

So I'm having to go back November 1st. I would not be able to justify going to a show when we're barely scraping by and I'm selling about 1/2 of my breeder flocks to pay for diapers.

I hear ya !! Well I guess when ya go back to work ya need to go at it estree hard so ya can do Chehalis.

When is Chehalis? That's an entirely manageable trip, and I want to see some chickens!

Speaking of which, Illia's Polis/Araucanas are dynamite.

Polish x Araucanas would be AWESOME though. I'm always tempted to do it, but, I've yet to. Both my Polish and Araucana girls are too busy pumping out purebred eggs to take a month-2 month break to do a cross like that.

Sorry, lost track of what you were crossing to what. I should keep notes, but I'm really, really trying to keep this from being another thing I study as opposed to play with. I'm not good at keeping hobbies at the level of recreation. Everything always turns into scholarship or farming.

I know you have the white sussex, but I thought the shamo's darker coloration, along with the white of the sussex, would produce a dark bird with white dots, rather like a speckled sussex.
Cute babe, defineitely gonna be lite colored!
So in this case, the Sussex have dominent white, and over powered the darker of your Shamo.
It can be strange (to me, an artist) as dark colors are always dominant over light.
For example, a dot of black paint & a dot of white will produce black.
One dot of black & 10 dots of white may produce a gray dilution, and so on.
So retraining my brain for chicken colors is difficult at times.

If you re-read my post above, you will see I wrote "I thought the off spring would be more speckled sussex-like"
Key word: offspring

I figure that I have done ALL camping possible:
Ground with no cover.
Ground with cover.
Tent.
Tent trailer.
19 ft Nash trailer
Now we have: 33' 5th wheel....bathroom, hot water. I will never go back.

I figure I am old and fat and I have paid my dues...I can have a bit of comfort. I know, it is probably not really "camping" when I can hook up to power and sewer and cable.

Last weekend I took the family tent camping.
