I posted this elsewhere but maybe I'll get quicker input here...

Would it be at all advantageous to put a cleanout door inside the run instead of on the outside?? I saw a pic of one like that, and I wondered why someone would design it that way. Wouldn't that be messier to deal with?

The females will indeed be orange with white specks from the barring.

But no, I have Light Sussex. White is solid white

Light is Silver, like sex-linked silver vs gold. Like your Light Brahmas, remember?

So, - My light Sussex is silver.

My Shamo is gold.

Together it is a sex-linked cross; Girls will be orange/gold, boys will carry both gold and silver genes and turn out a light yellow color.

Here's a visual of boys and girls -

And then with barring -

The speckled appearance in the offspring, if any, will be from the barring.

When I designed my walk-in coop, I was sick and tired of standing in the rain and the wind and the snow while cleaning the coop. My plan was to sweep all the bedding out the pop-door into the covered run in one of those soft-sided rip-stop bucket thingies. Only problem is, the contractor fastened the chicken ramp to the coop, so I can't fit the bucket there very well, I have to have one of my kids hold it while I sweep into it. It still works fairly well, and best of all, we stay dry. In the spring, I added poop boards under most of the roosts; doing so cut the amount of $ I spend on wood shavings by 75%.

So we have IRAs for all the grandkids, and the time is up...so we need to find someplace that pays better.
They are at Bank of the West right now, which is paying a whopping 1/2 percent...

Everyone in the family adds money to the accounts now, and we need to switch to another Bank paying a better % rate, any ideas?
I am gonna look into BECU~~~~~~~~~
Anyone have a better rate pleeeeeeeeeeeese let me know ASAP.

Would you be willing to invest it in one of your kids houses as part of their mortgage? Here is what we do:

My mother was earning about .23% on a CD that is in a trust to go to the grandkids (she has a generation-skipping will). Mom gets the intrest from the tust as part of her income to help pay her living expenses. The bank was charging me an outrageous rate on a Jumbo loan. I talked to mom, we ran it by a lawyer. Now part of my house is in the trust, and will be for my kids when mom passes. I pay mom the minimum federal family loan amount of 2.78% (I think it is slightly lower now, but we set the rate for 10 years a few years back). I qualified for a much better loan since our bank loan is no longer a Jumbo; I think I pay 5.3% on the bank portion of what we owe.

It came out as a win/win. Mom gets more $ to live off of so she does not need to take in a housemate to help split bills, I get a lower loan rate, and ALL the $ stays in the family instead of being paid out to banks. (Mortgage intrest on a family loan is tax deductable for a loan size limited to $100,000. It is legal to loan more however, the mortgage intrest is only deductable on the first $100,000 borrowed.)

Weirdly enough, it's easier from where you are than where I am, since there's a pretty direct route to Goldendale and not the ugly, ugly thing that is I-5 these days.

I'd love to go- for one thing, I want to look at all the Bantams and see who might have eggs, chicks or started trios available next spring (I'm looking closely at a few breeds in Mille Fleur, Porcelaine, Blue, Blue Red, or Crele colors but am more likely to make a good choice by looking at birds and talking to breeders in person than reading everything I can find and looking at pictures). But I am short of money, time, and the ability to sit in a car right now, especially the last two.

We have bantam Old English Game birds in the Crele variety. They are really pretty. I love that you can sex them at hatch. Look me up in the spring if you want some hatching eggs/chicks. Or when you are ready for the black BLRW roo.

I'm sorry CL, but no. We use a great bank and even ours isn't much better. I don't think there is. Credit Union is probably the best bet, considering most of their profit goes back to the members.
