Whew! So much to do before we leave for Stevenson! It's 3:30 pm and am I sleeping? NO. Doing something useful like bathing chickens? NO. I'm typing on BYC because it's more fun than laundry. I think I got a lot more done before I learned to use the computer.

I was up at 3:30 as well. My husband and I are headed down for a 'get-away' weekend in Hood River AND a chance for me to pop in and see the birds at Stevenson. Maybe I'll recognize some of you from our get together a couple of years ago.

I'm up early worried about getting things set up for my husbands son to take care of for four days (so ducks and chickens and cats and dogs all stay safe and fed). He's pretty responsible though so things should be okay. I just try to make it easy for him.

I've got Silkies here, but I'm afraid they are mostly looking like little roos (three blues and two splashes). Dad is a fine looking bird from Ultasol, but mom was just hatchery stock (from Cackle). But if anyone is looking for a Roo after the show, let me know.

:-)

Not the best pics but ...

Does this work on most breads? Four of my five definitely look like the top one. My runt looks more like the lower one and she/he is an Australorp. All the same age. What age were those ones? They look like mine did at 1-2 weeks old.

Nice to see ya again. I think that there is a chance I may be the only one at Stevenson that was also at the meet up in Kirkland (?). I will be somewhere in the EXHIBIT hall with my metal art drop by and say hi.

OK time for me to pack the lap top in the trailer and and finish the mad toss of the rest of the yet to be loaded. Got about 2 1/2 hrs to do way too much. then we are on the road. If anybody wants to get in touch. Several have my cell/text # just ask and they can PM it to ya.

Hope to see many of ya at Stevenson !!!

be sure to keep track of Ginger's chick; we know that Ginger is NOT carrying the blue egg gene, won't know until the pullets mature, whether Roopert is passing one along or not

(just in case that chick finds a new home, and that she's a pullet, and that someone wants blue or green eggs ... good chance she might lay pink ones)

I'm amazed that the chick even made it out

Friend me on FB! I don't play Farmville anymore, but I think I can still be a neighbor. Just look for Kim Stewart-Hunter.

It is the compost of his childhood as well. He wants to hand-spread and rototill the manure into his vegetable garden for the winter. No tidy bags from Lowe's for him. No sir!
My mother doesn't think it's such a good idea which only makes him want to get some "fresh" all the more. Their exchanges could be the fodder for a sitcom! Hilarious to listen to them. Mom so serious, Dad so funny.
I only hope that when I'm in my 80s I'll have such energy - for my garden and my relationships!

Yeah, no: raw manure this late in the year isn't likely to do anything good; it's easily leached into the ground/surface water, and tends to produce really weedy conditions. Stack it with the garden waste, yes; rototill it in and you risk messing with the soil texture (especially since there's no guarantee we'll have sufficient dry weather for rototilling not to collapse the soil structure completely).

(Sorry: I got a hoe for my second birthday, what can I say?)

You think my father is maybe having a little fun with me, too? (His city born and raised daughter!)
That would be just like him!
I'll play along and go get some "fresh" and see what happens.
Thanks for the education!
Love the chick photos!
