So you set up the wildlife cam before you went to bed?
I cannot waite to see what you get on the camera.

Remember it is motion activated, so you do not want to point it at things constantly moving, like a busy street (cars) or a chicken pen (all you will get is pics of chickens) nor directly at the sun.
Point it down a trail, not across the trail, so you can get pics of critters coming at the camera.
Also good to point it down the fence line, to see what is on the outside of and walking around, your pens & fences.
It is fun!!!

Oh I amso thankful for my younger brother! He saved me from a very not fun drive this morning... He was headed to Bainbridge, and so drove my DH to work. And not 5 minutes went by and I was praying to the porcelain shrine...

Was jostled out of bed WAYto fast this morning... it does not make me a happy momma.

Picked up two new cockerals from CGG yesterday. A Blue Wheaten and a Wheaten Ameracauna, both are happily tucked in a corner of my back porch in a crate. No worries CL they are in the fenced yard WITH the dogs! Now to get some sort of cone rigged up so I can get rid of the two older roos.

I would just use my hatchet or the axe, but I need a grinding wheel to sharpen both of those... What else could I use to remove said nasty cockerals head? Shears, a sharp knife? I supose I could always go get my hunting set and just use the bone cleaver...

Or maybe the owner passed or something but it still doesn't make dumping OK. I really like your second idea. let them know how much you sold those nice birds for.

OK, this skin has been stretched & dried about 2 weeks....so I got it down off the shelf & here we will take it off the styrofoam:

See the pins?
Note the thick coat of borax
50801_bird_pelt_002.jpg

I scrape the borax off
50801_bird_pelt_006.jpg

use a small brush to sweep & comb the borax off the feathers & skin
50801_bird_pelt_008.jpg

flip it over & brush edges
50801_bird_pelt_009.jpg

I usually take it outside & flip it like a rug to get any more borax out, but not every speck
50801_bird_pelt_010.jpg

Saddle hackle
50801_bird_pelt_011.jpg

Neck hackle (or 'Cape' )
Now I can rub alittle neetsfoot oil on it to make it more pliable..but with birds I usually do not, just fold in half and store in Ziplocks.
Any feathers needed can be simply snipped off.
Note: The skin on the bird's back is really tight, and requires someone to hold the carcass down, while you hold the skin in 1 hand, and sharp knife or scalpel in the other hand, you pull & cut little 'lines' to sever the skin from the carcass..slowly..
At the wings, you will need a big pair of wire snips or cutters to cut the wing bones, and leave no meat!
You can also cut around the wings as I have done as shown above.
In a full bird mount, like taxidermy, much more is required.
But just a pelt is easy enough & you will learn with practice!
OK, gotta go put my face on & get ready to catch Pea Fowl..C-YA!
