I enjoyed my scovies, I really did. Their antics were always entertaining. What I didnt like was the fact that they STINK!!! No matter how often I cleaned there pen, or how often I fixed the cover to their pen. They Always stunk, and always flew through the netting... Frustrating, yet interesting birds.

My mom hates their absolute stench (I believe in the males) and their appearance, you know, that face.

I had alot of people who were afraid of the drake solely because of the cerunkles. "sp?" You know the red flesh on the hed/neck of scovies. Mine were always friendly, very prolific breeders. One duck alone hatched out 28 ducklings. And boy were they ever cute! ANd HUGE!!! My drake when sold weighed in over 20 pounds, the ducks were all right around 16lbs. I made the mistake of turning them into pets though... Would like to try duck again, but from what I remember of duck from when I was a kid was that it was greasy...

Thanks for the quik tutorial CL! Im gonna try it out, just to do it. Dont personally have any use for them, but maby if I get good enough at it, I can maby offer them to the local fly fishing shop. Who knows, might be able to make an extra buck or two.

I've only had duck a couple times, and it was Indian Runner drakes, feedstore fellas, but it was GOOD.

Some gravy and sourdough bread on the side, mmmmm. And mashed potatoes. That was a good Thanksgiving.

We wanted egg layers and ended up with a noisy as heck Rouen female and three male Indian Runners. Gave away the female, ate the boys.

Was yeears ago.

I took Miguel to the vet. She said it was time to say good by. Miguel is gone.

I am so, so sorry. That has got to be one of the hardest things to do. Many of us have been in the same place and are right there with you.

Jake, have you and anyone else here noticed how the high school girls, young women included have decided the new fashion craze is several strings of chicken, pheasant or pea cock feathers hung in their hair?
Check out E-Bay !!!!!!!!
The girls are going crazy for small strings of hackle!!!!!!!!

I love my muscovies. They are so sweet and very friendly.I have 2 girls (Daphne and Daisy) and one drake (Darkwing) and he is huge! They love to sit with me in the yard and eat popcorn from my hand! And they are so quiet. My neighbors have no idea I have ducks in my backyard.
