The heat lamps were on in the greenhouse this morning. They come on at 35 degrees and off at 45. I'm glad I got it set up and got the most tender things inside yesterday. Those that will tolerate a few degrees of frost, will wait a little longer.

yeah, I had to scrape the car's windshield for DH this morning -- we both forgot to cover it with a sheet or blanket last night

lots of frost on the grass, and the chickens are not too happy with that, though their soft sandy dirt in the run, doesn't feel as cold as the grass does

at least to my bare feet --- as I opened the door from the coop to the run, so I can tell the temperature difference underfoot

Roxy dog complained bitterly to me that HER feet were cold too, as she decided where to do her morning business

I say thank goodness for a microwave and nice hot coffee latte .... and cranberry whole wheat buns

chickens don't seem to like the pelletized feed we got them this time, as much as the granular stuff, at least they aren't eating as much

but I'd rather have "local" feed than Purina, and I'm still not too sure about the GMO soy that might be in that latter

they were most interested in the partly-eaten apples I threw in, instead -- it is hilarious to watch a chicken stab her beak into an apple and run off with it, all the others after her

OK, sounds like I'm going to have to start cleaning my house! It's getting too cold to sit out on the tack room porch!

Ever thought ov trying one of those propane heaters ???

sorry I just couldn't resist.

I don't know about CG, but the propane idea is looking better by the day here. I'm now blaming the hummingbird for the mess.

You may want to check again. They also do 100' in # 14 and some 50's are 16. And they try to fool unknowing people. See they put thick insulation so they seem like good cords but youe haveto look at the wire size to be sure. It will always be stamped into the outer sheath.

I feel so lucky

we bought #10 extension cords when we were building this house (we acted as our own general contractor, and a great group from Chehalis did much of the work, they found us a place to order them cheap since several groups of contractors went in together on a bulk buy) -- our house is also wired with #10 since late hubby the forensic engineer, had had to investigate a number of house fires -- the electrician laughed but I didn't

DH thinks about this kind of thing anytime we are adding outlets and things. I am fairly sure that we could plug in just about anything into the outlets he added to the shed this summer.

This sounds like a communist plot by the Chinese, to rob us of our little bit of remaining sanity. It's a shame that you can't return it for a refund a year later, with a note that tells the company to fire the engineer.

The pink is gone for this season!
(Besides, I did put a pink border around my avatar!

Thanks, justbugged for the info.
My garage stays pretty warm.
I would imagine they don't need much watering.

Once they're dormant, they don't need to be watered.

That really explains why they survive in my garage over the winter.
