I am worried for her and the girls....

Met EagleFlyer (a.k.a. Mike) this weekend. he was in the area and he stopped for fruit. i gave him tons of chicken eggs. I didn't know he got out of the chicken business. he does have his incubators though and his pheasants.... I showed him my birdies.

it was nice being home. the chickens have totally taken over the 'dead' garden. any pumpkins are now munched. The only thing alive and untouched in the garden is the Brussels Sprouts... but we don't eat them either.

they are busy free ranging like crazy... found a few dead mice so i know they are doing their job in that area too.

One of the Spitz pullets I sold a friend has turned out not to be a pullet. She says he is nicely marked, and the crest, while too full, doesn't sweep back. Anyone Interested? I'd be happy to put you in touch with her.

So, I guess I better get my fanny in gear about the show.....crates to clean for one thing, they been sitting outside...
Looked at the Javas this morning, 2 very nice but younger pullets, a nice cockeral but also young..maybe too young to show...

Darn it, I really wanted to take them...........

The Buckeyes are ready for sure!
Looking very very nice!
And at the Fair last August the Buckeyes were at the same adolescent stage the Javas are in now...no red combs yet..still gangly...and they were questioned for having improper combs!!!!!!!!!!

After a few days I think he finally figured out I was "safe" and added me as a friend. Sorry CR for not sending a note in the first place to remind you who I really was!

The Big Crush at work yesterday went well. We crushed 2200 lbs. of eastern WA grapes, starting about noon and finishing up about 3. It's always a good time. We had some wonderful home made italian sausage sandwiches with a marinara sauce and I had made biscotti. Good times.

So, a couple of questions. I didn't have a garden this year, but was thinking there's a possibility I could pick up a pumpkins cheap at the grocery store today. When you feed pumpkin to your chickens, do you slice it for them? Just bust it open and let them have at it? Only give them the seeds? I'd like to give them a new treat to keep them busy during the day.

Also, about the show coming up in December. If a newbie were interested in showing, what would they need to know? Specifically, who is eligible to show? Do you have to have bred your own, or could they be chickens you've hatched from someone else's eggs? Is there an entry fee? Do you need to be a current member of any organization? And is there a website one could refer to that gives you a checklist for readying a chicken for a show? I've never given a chicken a bath, much less a spa day. These are all hypothetical questions, just, you know, thinking.

I have a pretty Salmon Faverolles girl who I love

that makes me ponder such things. Purely hypothetical though.
