Do you know if a power outage and maybe a power surge kill a heating element?
My great cabnet incubator heating element isnt working, so not sure if all my eggs are dead or not.
I have a sportsman heating element or should I say had. Now I need a new element and try not to kill all the eggs.

I am not familiar with that particular unit. But I can tell you that an outage should not harm it. If you had a surge you should have other items dead also. Are you sure there is still power to the outlet that the unit is plugged into??

Zgoatlady- I'm so sorry about that darn power!'

' Ours went out lastnight also! Would having your bator on a surge protector strip help maybe?
By chance do you know how to vent sex ducklings? Del's in Enumclaw might be getting some runners in on Wed!

I was up all night frettying about the incubator and the new chicks I brought home on Thursday as I was listening to the wind! I was sure as soon as I fell asleep we would lose power. Tomorrow night I lock them down. Luckily we didn't lose power, hope all of those that did have it back soon with none to great losses!

Hi, well the fan still works and its pluged into a surge protector, my husband said he bumped into it this morning when he was getting ready for work. So if water hit the element would that make it go dead? The element is the GQF one if that helps. Do you know if we could get a element like that at Home depot?

T Hi

I really dont need this today I can tell you that, can hardly move with my back and all just want to cry...

Ok now I feel better.

WOW we just went through the craziest hail storm I've experienced out here. . . And I'm expecting more, looking at the satellite. Nice huge chunks of showers. . .

Anyone else getting dumped on by torrents of hail and rain? (and anyone experiencing the thunder yet?) - It is really scaring my 2 month old chicks!

Are you sure that the wafer is not blocking your temp?

For a couple of bucks you should just get another one.

If you want to give me a call we might be able to figure out a thing or two.

I do have a couple more questions before determining that it is gone.

No, a power outage or surge would NOT of wasted your element.

Zgoatlady, sorry about your back and your incubator problems!!! Feel better soon!

Illia, yikes on the hail!! I was so hoping most of this storm was over, but they did say thunderstorms this afternoon were a possibility. Guess you are getting it all first! Hang in there! Just pray we don't lose power! I go into lockdown tomorrow night and don't know how I'll keep the baby chicks we already have warm!!!

Oh yeah. . . It seems Seattle-based people get weather 3+ hours later than we do. I forgot about that.

If the weather is going to get horrible, I sure am glad I finished tilling the garden for the first time.
Hail, thunder, and what ever else makes me want to get a fire going.
If by chance you end up loosing power, go ahead on with your hatch like nothing happened, saving a few chicks instead of just tossing the whole lot could be the way that it is going to work.
I have heard of people loosing power for sometime and still getting a hatch out of it. Not as good "ofcourse".
There is no need to get all worked up about something that might not even happen.
