I am not too worried about the roosting because there are only three of them, and one is "differently abled" as my daughter says, like her. She doesn't walk very well and I don't think she is physically capable of roosting. So if the other two roost, that leaves Rosalie alone on the floor. I have put the Sussex up on the roost in the daytime to see if she could stay up there and she did for a few minutes, but crashed into the hanging feeder coming down, causing quite a ruckus, lol. Maybe it is too high (24" I think) with no ladder. It is a closet dowel. I am learning that the whole coop is a work in progress, always something to change or fix.
I have pine shavings in the 8 x 10 coop, but use a kitty litter scoop and pick up most of the poop every day. Only takes 5 minutes, and is much more to my liking
So the corner they sleep in gets cleaned every day, otherwise it would be gross to have them sleeping in it, yuk! So if they don't want to roost, I don't really mind, but they do need to lay the eggs in a better place! And I hope the one they ate does not lead to egg-eating chickens!
CR I am so eggcited for you! Sounds like you hit the jackpot!
