Am I the only one getting pouring rain?

Ayup, or at least I guess so: I've got low forties, overcast, and a little breeze. The system seems to be hitting the coast between Queets and the SW tip of Vancouver island.

I don't have an answer to your pellet stove question and don't have any immediate solutions to all going on with you right now T-Hi. All I've got are some of these...

I have a pellet stove - - can you provide pictures? While similar, they are all different enough.

I know the feeling! Last child, my DS who is disabled, my uterus ruptured, mega blood transfusions. You wake up and don't know WTH happened! All you know is your baby is PERFECT going in and then phenol barbitol induced coma when you wake up! S--t, W-T-F and guilt for life that you screwed up.

Sorry to hear that. Luckily my drama happened after the baby was already out...

this dog is going to drive me insane ...

today as a trial, I have been sitting up in the loft at the computer, with Roxy dog on the main floor (the loft is open to the great room)

DH is out working on hobbies, so she is on that level alone, though she has access out the dog door in case something interesting is happening outside

she has been whining steadily ...

she was whining, too, when DH was here on his computer on that level; but he cannot hear those high pitched noises ... he had NO idea she was trying to attract his attention

we have the staircase more or less blocked off; we put a bunch of cartons across the access to the stairs, both up to here and down to the basement; took a bit of training to keep her from jumping over them ... likewise the open kitchen is blocked off the same way

I'm hoping she decides to take her afternoon nap soon ...

on a happy note, after a couple of days of no eggs, there was one of Ginger's pink ones today ... I took the steak trimmings out for the chickens today and you should have heard the clucking and quarreling --- there was more than enough for everyone but each hen thought some other hen had the "choicest" piece, and they ran all over the run and into the coop and up and down from perches ... yesterday they enjoyed picking off the last little bits from the rib bones (I collected those up when we shut the chickens into the coop for the night, didn't want predators going after leftovers)

Yeah, he has a NG tube also, amongst several other tubes, wires, etc. When DH left last night they had FIL in arm restraints so that he wouldn't reflexively rip out his trach tube when he woke up, but his bed is in direct line of sight to the nurse's station.

I did that once and my IV's, or so they tell me. I don't recall it. All that I remember was having one heck os a sore throat and nose, so when they told me that I was just thinking, "yeah, blame it on the inconscious patient."

I SO HAPPY your FIL has made such amazing progress! I'm no longer afraid to read here. Sounds like he is quite a fighter, so next year when they schedule their annual Elk Hunt, insist they pack in the pre-cut firewood!

I just went through all of the Serama pullets for sale on the 8 weeks and older section. And there is exactly ONE that is worth the price the auction is at right now. That is "Bonnie" on page 3, she's a chocolate pullet.

Some of the other are pretty, and have nice type, but like the one that I think you are asking about, if you look closely, she has VERY dark, almost black legs. Seramas should have yellow legs. The dark legs are extremely hard to breed out. Even if you have one with mostly yellow legs, with a little bit of black at the top (called "swarthy" legs) they really like to throw that to their offspring. I even have a pullet with yellow legs that throws swarthy legs to some of her offspring. If you want some really nice birds, see ZooMummzy on here, you can search the threads for "Castle Delight Seramas" there are a couple of threads up talking about her birds.

I can also bring you some hatching eggs to Chehalis if you are going to be there....here are my 2 breeding pens:

Voltron and Anthea (this is the pullet that throws swarthy legs sometimes):

And this is Bill, Toffee and Gwen:

Agh! I am going to be at Chehalis - don't tempt me! I do admire these little birds and would love to have some, but I think I might be about 3 times over my legal limit in my neighborhood. Thank goodness the girls are relatively quiet. I've been sharing eggs with the neighbors so I don't get the chicken gestapo called on me.

But thank you for posting pics of your Seramas - I see quite a difference between yours and what might have been posted on auction. All of yours have a certain "je ne sais quoi" that is desirable in that they a sport a jauntiness that I think the little birds wear quite well. They are all pretty - I thought Anthea was particularly nice but then I saw the rest and was glad I wasn't having to choose who I liked best!
If I told DH we need to build a third coop with another special one in the garage to winter our Seramas I'm afraid he'd have apoplexy. But once he got to know these little charmers I'm sure he'd be enamoured. I've been telling him how sweet and friendly the Faverolles sisters are and he would reply gruffly, "They're just chickens". Yesterday I caught him feeding them special treats.

"Ondine" sat still for him a longgg time while he petted her and I could tell he was secretly pleased. She may like him even more than she likes me now. I was a little jealous when I saw how long she sat still for him!

I'll let you know if I change my mind one day about those Serama eggs...

Early training, I suspect.

Maybe the fact that my almost-eighty-five year old aunt was complaining about how she needs to find a job because she's bored and restless now that she's sold her five-bedroom house and three-quarter-acre lot and moved to an apartment says all I need to say about the kind of standards I've had modeled. By those measures, all I've done for my whole life is fail, fail, fail.

We all fail at something! I think as long as we try we haven't really failed. You are awesome at English and vocabulary! And anyone who attempts to farm is never a failure.

If I had known I would be such a failure at raising (and giving birth to) kids I never would have had them but we learn as we go. We do what we can with what we got. All we can do is give it our best shot. And something just recently that Rustler posted has been in my frontal lobes, no one can judge us unless they have lived our lives. Don't be so hard on yourself. Everyone is different and lived different lives. As long as we try and do our best we are much better off than a lot of people.

Put your Aunt to work at your place! Give her that Wyandotte coop to finish.

I sooo fee like a failure as a parent right now. I asked DH to keep up and work with Alex this year because DD is having so many issues; she does not complete anything! Despite what I thought were my best efforts at helping without actually doing her work for her, she is bombing most of her classes (this is the girl who usd to fiercly compete for top of the class). Her self-esteem is in the gutter, and I can't get her to focus on anything. I thought DS would be easy for DH to keep tabs on as he was on the honor roll all of last year. WRONG! He has A's in Math and Technology, but is barely passing the rest. He makes no efforts in classes he has no intrest in and neither does DH. The end of the first trimester is Friday, and both their teachers will not accept work that is more than 5 days late (and even that the highest score you can get is 50%). I don't know what happened. DD also has become a liar, luckily that is something Alex never does. I don't know if it is part of being an Aspie, but I have never known one to tell lies because they take everything so literally. I think DD has picked up his share and added it to hers. Thankfully at this stage it is mostly "Yes I did my homework, so can Isabelle come play?" and "Yup, I cleaned my room, took a shower and turned in my dirty laundry." But she has told me several times now "No my teacher never gave me a missing assignment sheet" when she absolutely did, and she knew it and knew she had a lot on it. When it involves lying about someone else, that takes it up to a new level and really makes me mad!
