Hi Everyone;

Its been awhile with school and all I do not get on here much. So this week has been not so good!!! Thursday was my birthday and my boys threw me a suprise party Yay!! Unfortunatly yesterday we woke to snow about 1/2 inch and no power. I lost all my chicks, all 25 of them to the cold. THe power was out for about 6 hours andthe chickies just couldn't make it. I am devistated and really ready to throw in the towel!!! I can't afford to replace them all and am particularly devistated because I lost all three of my Turkins. Onewas a black Turkin. I tried to keep them warm with hot water bottles but because we are on well water the water ran out!! I am just really sad!!!

Congratualtions to all who have new babies, and the goats are really cute!! I am so glad that spring is here now I can work on my veggie garden!! I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter!!!

OK, I'm just playing it by ear right now. Momma is in the big plastic bin, still setting on eggs (7 of them), but 1 baby chick also. The eggs have 1 week left to hatch. I put food and water in there for the chick so momma can feed it while still setting. If she decides the baby is more important than the eggs, I will just have to hook up the bator, I guess. Humidity is way high in the air right now anyway, so it won't take long to get that set up... Such a good momma. I'm proud of my Gilly

I do not think the guy selling all those chicks in Snohomish is going to drive all the way to Chehalis, it is way too far.
Is there an auction in Enumclaw ?
Guess you could call him.
It is all too far away for me.
I have threatened to go to the Chehalis Farmer's Market, but haven't.
Seems way too cold to have babies outdoors in a Farmer's Market right now.
Has any of you been to the Chehalis Farmer's Market ?
I am dying for "Early Girl " Tomato Palnts !

How sad for crazychickenluver !
Lost all your babies !
OMG I would just cry my eyes out all day !
Don't give up !
Find some more chicks, they are for sale everywhere right now !
One time I lost power (years ago while living in Okanogan) and I put my 25 barred rock chicks (i day old's) in a medium rabbit cage, and opened the propane oven door, and sat them right there with a towel around and over the top but open to the inside of the oven.
I turned the gas on low, and watched the thermometer closely.
We had no power for several days.
And all the babies were fine !
None even seemed sick from gas !
They were perky and energetic, eating and happy !
It was a bear to cook on the range top with the oven door open, but all turned out fine !

- It was SNOWING near Port Angeles!! I was going to pick up some Wheaten and Blue Wheaten Marans today, but noo - It had to hail and snow the whole way, so we had to turn around and call the meet/pick up off.

WHY is it SNOWING in APRIL?!!!

. . . At least it isn't snowing here. Just hail. Hail that has pummeled our lettuce to the ground.

It took ours awhile (few weeks maybe?) to change stance, even then it wasn't very noticable. They were pretty much indistinguishable from our Khakis except they were a bit darker.

Sorry to hear about your chicks, You didn't have a backup plan?
I keep my incubators next to a wood stove and my brooders have one of those outdoor stand heaters from fred myers.
It was a 100 bucks but well worth it, the only thing that I didn't like about it was those little cans that you had to buy so I plumbed(had it plumbed)for a propane tank.
With all the hatching that I do it would not only set me back but alot of other people too. Always good to have a backup plan!
Still, sorry about you loosing 25 babies.
I wish I could help.
Mike

I have the bator going on the kitchen counter, and a big brooder in the hen house, what's one more brooder ?
hu.gif
seems normal to me, hard to walk through the house what with all these contraptions of peeping babies and extension cords everywhere !
Hopefully an egg won't blow up cuz he will leave me for sure !
