I hear ya on the dog hair! We have two big fogs that get to come in on the linoleum only but some times it's hard to tell if hair is moving or if the floor is moving!

All three of the dogs used to sleep in my bedroom with DH and I. I put a stop to that when we had DD. Now they dont go past the kitchen/entrance! lol DOg hair and sand are what make the biggest mess around here. I cant go outside without dragging some sand in the house. And Dusty, she's getting old, doesnt go outside unless I make her go. She's been falling down the stairs lately... The meds the vet has her on dont seem to be helping anymore, the asprin ruitine isnt helping, Im just at the point of keeping her comfortable. Im not so sure on how much time I have left with her. She still eats, drinks plenty of fluids, and even gets little bursts of energy now and then and trys to play... But mostly she lays around. She's just getting old, no health problems that we can see, just old age.

Sounds like Miguel in his last days.

I've got to get the run at least mostly wired: it especially has to have a secure roof, as there's an apple tree limb right over the east end that is perfect raccoon/owl/hawk launch pad height. It's going to be too loose to walk on and have an additional loose 2" mesh cover to entangle and frustrate (and hurt!) any long-toed invaders. But the seam is over my head and I can only do two or three joins, even with the new split-ring fasteners, before my fingers get numb.

Yesterday was not a day anything got done on it; we had to chase cattle and then I remembered that I had things my hired hand needed to do up on the roof. I just wished that hadn't included finding a "divot" between my bathroom skylight and the fan vent: another piece of expensive home repair we can neither do ourselves nor afford to pay anyone to get it fixed.

I thought I had everything under control today, but then the kittens-almost-cats knocked the oldest orchid off the table, broke a terra cotta pot and a hand-thrown (bought at Goodwill, ugly) bowl and got bark all the heck over the floor, and that removes all control.

Stupid felines.

remind me to tell you the (true) story about cats playing with matches ....

Well the pet stories continue. Both our dog (Phantom) and cat (Loki) have some degree of renal failure. The cat's is worse. The vet estimates he's at 15-20% kidney function. He has a bunch of related problems: anemia, low potassium, bladder infection, significant weight loss (50% of what he once was when he was younger). He keeps peeing in the living room, which is where Ari's toys are.

Phantom has a bit of kidney failure too, but the test results are similar to what they were a year and a half ago, so it doesn't seem to be getting any worse. He recently started showing nasty arthritis in his hips though, and his hearing is starting to go. I don't have any experience with old pets, since mine have usually not made it this long. Loki is 16 and Phantom is 12. I don't suppose Loki will be with us much longer - not sure about Phantom. I confess to being a bit of a lazy bad pet owner...I'm sure their passing will be hard, but I'm also looking forward to not having to deal with pet hair and various animal uh, waste products around the house.

I just lost patience for that kind of thing when I started having kids.

Holy heck. That's one way to get the adrenaline flowing! So glad you were home and that the birds weren't out. Now to find the owners and make certain those dogs stay in their own da** yards! Happy to hear the puppy is okay too. Are you on good terms with the neighbors who have the puppy? Is there a cooperative way to ensure the labradoodle next door doesn't grow up to be a chicken harasser too?

Not on the best of terms with the neighbors, we sure got along well in crisis mode today though.

They are really good about keeping their dogs at home, I'm not worried about their pup at all.

The problem with follow through on the dogs in question is that I have never seen them before, and have no idea how far from home they had wandered to get to my house. I drove around again later, and there was no sign of them anywhere, I drove slow looking in back yards, etc. I never did get an answer from AC today, wonder if they were closed due to the holiday...

I did call the emergency clinic where I work and told them what happened, so if someone calls to see if anyone had brought in their dogs today, they can say no, but they better find them before I do!

Shannon - SSS = Shoot, shovel, and shut up!

Except these dogs have tags, so it'd be shoot, drive, and deliver!

Sorry to hear about your pets. There are lots of us veterinary folks on this forum though, so if you ever need things explained, etc..

If you are having trouble sleeping....have you looked into Melatonin? I use it and love it. I won't give you the "shpeel" in case you know what it is...if you want info let me know and I will "shpeel" away.

Cowgirl: Thank you...yes he did. I just got the latest...they plan on moving him Sunday to St. Luke's for rehab. He is making leaps and bounds improvement daily. Yesterday he was able to talk a little....he said, "Get me out, I want to go home"....LOL. True to style for him.

I can emagine! We have three people, three dogs, and 2 birds residing in our house. lol Im glad the main living area isnt carpeted! At least the lenolium "sp?" is easy to sweep. It also amazes me to this day how much hair Dusty sheds in a couple hours! I swear everytime this old dog breaths she lets loose a few dozen hairs! Big furball that she is!

I am downsizing when the time comes for my next dog- the half-Chesepeake, especially, basically sheds every minute of the day.
