The story about DD and Everclear curled my toe nails too. I didn't even know what it was, until I asked the gals at the liquor store. DD wasn't quite 18 when the bf grave her some. I reported to to the police, but there really wasn't anything they could do about it. I am so happy those days are past. DD was so fun as a teenager, and then this guy came along.

Ideally also, you aren't breeding brothers/sisters together. So it's best to have at least two pens going, I have one pen with a pure black English Orp roo over lavender hens, and another pen with my Lavender Roo over pure black English Orp hens. When you grow out their offspring, tag them somehow so you know which ones hatched from the black roo's pen vs which one's hatched from the lav roo's pen. Then pick your best split combo's and pen them together similarly to breed. When their offspring hatch, tag the lavender chicks in a similar fashion, cull any black chicks, and repeat over and over. Eventually most of the bad type/bad feather quality will be bred out, but it could take lots and lots of repeating this process. CGG and I were chatting about this the other day because we both got our lav's from the same lady who got hers from Hinkjc who is really the beginner of this project at least here on BYC. I wanna say that Hinkjc is like up to generation 8 or something? Not 100% sure. I plan to breed my split's in late winter, and consider them my F1's, so their offspring will be my F2's. But before I got my lav's, they were probably already improved 4-5 times over so are actually just behind Hinkjc's a generation or two, maybe three. Anyway, hope that helps! Until the type and feather quality are excellent, don't worry about other little things. They come first and foremost and need the most work.

Wow. very interesting. printing this for information. Lots of work to do. I just love orps and I love this color. these guys are so much fun. Well, sounds like I need to be inthe market for some good quality true blacks. I was thinking that would be what I would do too, black roo over lav hens and lav roo over black hens. I don't have LOTS of space, but I have some. Hmmmmm, parents live next door and have a bit more space. Wonder if I can expand there? LOL.

Unfortunately, I end up giving "the group" a group name too. But that does sound like a good rock band name - I will be looking for it. LOL. The lav orps at this time are the "Orpies". I say it how that English woman called her dogs...remember her...."Woooookies".....only I say "Orpppppies". How are my "Orppppies". they all know this sound and come running to me. LOL. I am going to pick one of my favorite movies and name them after characters. I was thinking Jim (Jimmy Stewart), Audrey (Heprun), Doris (Day), Frankie (Sinatra), need one more favorite HE actor...but have not decided for sure. May change it some of their screen names. My DD already took the movie 7 Brides for 7 Brothers. I don't think I could spell the names from Fiddler on the Roof.

so I am still thinking about it. Bumble got her name because "Bumbles bounce" (from Rudolph)...She fell out of someones hand when she was 2 days old. Hit the linoleum inthe kitchen. Still lived. I was freaked out.

I am so sorry you are having all of this pain. I a sorry about your DD...it is hard to stand by and let them do what you know is going to be a painful/wrong choice. You so don't need more stress in your life right now. Prayers for you both.

going through the same thing with 18 yo DS. Don't have any good advice. We pretty much told him the same thing you told her. It is really hard...but I am told they will grow out of this and come through on the other side doing well. I just pray for him nightly.

Thanks Teresa! I'm trying not to stress but how can you not when your heart is involved. I know it will get easier as the days pass and hopefully we will have a better relationship in the end. I've heard that it can happen. I just hope she finishes school.
She is with a friend of ours that is loving but very no nonsense.
