beautiful!
really nice photo!

Thanks! Notice the dog looking at me? That's Riley. He's always freezing and loves to lay right on the heater vent when it is on.
Silly pup was begging me to let him back in the house!

We have a Yellow Lab, Dozer, like that. We leave them out in the fenced yard when we leave for the day. Dozer loves to be in the house, especially if we are so he is not 'conditioned' for colder weather. The other day we got home and Dozer couldn't wait to get in the house. His teeth were chattering! Cracked us up. His favorite spot in the winter is in front of the wood stove. Bella on the other hand is always on the alert for anyone going outside, going down to the animals, or leaving in the truck. If she thinks anyone is doing any of those things she will NOT come in the house. She doesn't want to miss anything. She usually prefers to be outside anyway unless it's late at nite. That little Corgi is tough as nails.

He can be blunt, but he's also in his seventies (I believe) and remembers the stringmen of exhibition poultry and has been in it his entire life. He just has his opinions and isn't afraid to say them- but I have always found that when he and I have disagreed he has not held it against me (and oh, he and I have disagreed quite a bit- esp on the win I had with a blue silkie at the APA semiannual/silkie national due to 'lacing' on silkied birds).

I have a lot of respect for him, and I listen to what he says, but I don't always agree. Brian puts his heart and soul into poultry- into the national breed clubs and organizations he belongs to and especially into the local clubs. When club officers have fallen short or not stepped up to the plate it seems like he has been there willing to help. He's trying to preserve the hobby as he sees it.

Well he returned my e-mail as well.
I before hand (2 weeks ago) asked terra about a turkey sized cage in which to display only, 4-5 Icelandics with a poster describing the breed so folks could see them.
She replied that she should ask Mr Decker.
She never got back to me, as am I am now counting how many crates I have, I e-mailed Decker myself & asked.
I told him I have my own table, just wanted to know $ of a turkey sized cage & if I could "display only" the birds such as some did at Stevenson with "psters" on Capons (you remember the Capon display there?)
He relied that IF I were to bring said birds that they would be entered in as show birds since it is an APA/ABA sanction show.
But, I was certainly welcome to enter them.
??????????????????????????????????????????
Well, I have already sent in my show form, and if I bring the Icees to "display" (as an educational display mind you) I will have to pay the $3 entry fee per bird, and adjust $ for the larger cage, and set them in the appropriate line of cages for the show, rather than set my table & display over by Cloverleaf Farms with HER educational display she has for the Favs...............so what the heck????
Icelandics are NOT in the SOP or APA and yet he wants me to enter them????????????
Crap.
I do not get it, not many would see them..and how can you judge a pen of 6 Icelandics...all running about in one pen, especially when they are not in the SOP..and frankly, I doubt if they ever will be since each one is very different than the other, no standard could ever be set for what they SHOULD look like...

Sounds to me like a younger generation may need to step in and update things.

And cute too!

Hi everybody; busy days here - I've barely seen my girls *sigh*

Cute story from today - our neighbor knocked on the door and told my husband that "you might be missing some of your black chickens!" He panics - his immediate thought is that I'm going to be so mad at him LOL Then he runs out back to see everyone is there - no one unaccounted for

Turns out our neighbor down the road has chickens and they got out. I was so happy that 1. our neighbor cared enough to tell us, and 2. my husband had a moment of panic - he knows I love them!

Is it really suppose to get that cold? maybe I should lock down pop doors. I don't think the seramas came outside at all today, or if they did...they only stayed under the roofed area where there is no snow. I will have to watch them tomorrow.

It's all of 31F here, already- dead still, going to be a hard freeze, ugh. and I just realized I should have turned off and drained the hose going east from the hose bib, bad enough I haven't properly insulated it yet, I knew there was something I was going to have my hired hand do yesterday.

The worst thing about this cold- other than the persistant feeling that I've somehow sucked jello wigglers into my lungs- is that every time I cough I lose about five minutes of short term memory, or something... no, actually, it's that I can't stand the idea of food, and I'm about 600 calories short for the day at this point. Seriously, not a good thing, and worse because when I do eat my BG goes soaring and then crashes within an hour.

Stupid viruses. I don't have time for this.
