Well you know a good portion of it. However the REMAINDER is dependant on the element of total surprise.

I think you should( CR ) show up with your dispaly & set up.
Period.
I am not bringing icelandics, however.
I really have to remember I am not on 2 legs much.
bathing 2 WHITE turkeys and a white rock pullet (the dirtiest) will be enough for me.
DH is being very good so far, but he can turn on me & get rather put out.
He is getting better though, day by day.
The first few days after my fall, I could do little to nothing.
And DH was a booger to deal with!
See, he is used to being spoiled.
He also had NO IDEA how much work I do & how little I get to even sit & go potty before jumping up to go do something else, coop out, fill feeders & waterers, clean poop trays, shower, laundry, make the bed & coffee, start breakfast, dishes, then lunch and did ya take anything out of the freezer for dinner???
after a few days he was getting really discontent to say the least.
All but went on strike.
I looked at him and replied "It's f****D being a woman, isn't it?
You do not get to sit & relax all day until you hit the sack at night"
He was OK after that..for a while.
He was almost that mean yesterday when we went shopping.
I got out of the van & went to get my wheelchair out & he wanted me to ride the icky scooter at walmart I did not care for...ewwwwwww/.
So I continued to get my wheelchair & he was upset that he would have to get it out for me and that it would be easier if I rode the scooter.
I did not relent, but was in my wheelchair when he returned with the icky scooter.
Nope, I am fine.
Lately I am thinking he is a bit upset that I am getting better.
It equals=
I hit the dirt/ out of commision.
Suddenly he had full control & responsibilities
He hated it,
He got used to it,
he started liking it & ordering me around,
he started hating me gaining back control.
Now he is OK again.
Weird, huh?

Too many people want the control but not the responsibilities. I fi9gure the person who has the responsibilities is entitled to the control.

You'll have to tell us about the pig when you get him. I picked up a big heated water bowl for 75% off last spring. It was for the dog. The dog is no more. There's no reason the chickens can't use it.

Brian Decker really is a nice guy. He just says what he thinks, as do many of us. I've had many discussions with him and come off the better for us. He is very knowledgable and willing to share that knowledge. We were just discussing this very issue at the Crossroads Show when we were going out to dinner. We were discussing my fondness for the unusual colors of Polish- such as White Crested Chocolate or Khaki. He was saying, "I like a GOOD chicken, and a good chicken is one you can win with, hmmm." He went on to mention how varieties which are only ABA accepted will rarely go higher than BV because otherwise the judge must pick an APA and an ABA winner. He is not likely to be fond of a landrace like Icelandics which have no consistent type, but I doubt he meant to hurt your feelings, he was just letting you know it would not be productive to enter them in the show. He has judged internationally and is quite open to breeds accepted in other nations with consistent standards and type-which is what he initially thought you had.
I have a soft spot for people who fall in love with a breed or variety which is unlikely to ever garner any show awards- I feel that way about my silkied seramas, but I also understand the point that, for a serious competitor, (and I do like to win- I think most people do) certain breeds or varieties will never go anywhere. That's why I gave up on my tollbunt Polish- no hope of recognition or ever being competitive and a complete lack of vitality. Don't judge Brian too harshly. If you got to know him, you would actually like the guy- though you might agree to disagree.

I like your Ricky and I refuse to call him by his full name. He's a sweetheart!
As to the sign "slow chicken" - I dont' mind the lack of a comma for the chickens but when I see those "slow children at play" signs out on the road ....
What can I say?
Makes me want to tear off a piece of electrical tape and stick it in just the right spot but that would be defacing government property!

When I bought this house it had an old inefficient woodstove that made a huge mess!
The store I bought my new one from came out and measured the space I needed heated (upper floor only) and gave me great recommendations.
We followed their advice, from which unit to buy to ripping out the old flooring below and adding wonderboard under the new slate to adding vents on the backboards so we could save space.
Couldn't be happier. Keeps the upstairs warm but not too warm.
Has saved me tons of money.
Wonderful to sit in front of with a good book. Nothing like wood heat.
Very clean burn.
Pretty to look at, too. (Yup, that's important to me!)
(I bought the white one.)
Would love to put another unit downstairs but that's for a later day!

Ref: Icelandics:

They are VERY consistent in type, what they vary in is colors, patterns and combs.

Size and conformation is very consistent, as is hardiness, broodiness, maternal and paternal traits, egg size and color, laying and growth habits.

They are a Landrace that breeds true as a breed. For over a thousand years they have evolved, and bred true. They were breeding true as a breed 6-700 hundreds of years before there was an America, let alone an American SOP.

Mr Decker may well be a prince of a fellow but he is sadly deficient in knowledge of Chicken breeds of the world that outdate American breeds in so many years.
