Yes they normally go in the area being heated. Most commonly used in shops, garages etc. I don't know of any in houses and am pretty sure they would not pass for WA.
I don't have a barrel stove. I think you missunderstood. It was 4312 that said her family had one when she was a kid (you know like 2-3 years ago). I have a blaze king and yes I do "normally" load it once a day.

And yes you do have to use some caution with barrel stoves but if you put some brick or sand in the bottom and don't run them too hot they will last quite a while.
A better plan for a barrel stove is to get some yarder tube and plate then build your own and it will last a very long time. Also CGG with the barrel stove you only put wood in the bottom the top is just to radiat heat

Around here they used to pick up the hit game and used at the jail...but some one complained and said it was not fair they had to eat it or whatever...they dont do it now.

But on another thought...my mother had always told me that they get the animal will get its adrenaline going and it can taint the meat from the stress? I dunno....

I was wondering. OUR pot luck?

I too was reconsidering coming down. Long ways to come to have a cranky guy not let 2 of my BYC friends display. I was not going to support such an organization...but it sounds like the VP and Christina stepped up to the plate - Good for them. So, the only thing stopping me now will be the weather.

It has happened to me. I'd only get concerned if it seems to happen very frequently. Do you offer oyster shell?

VF

Sadie Sue: They can also do this as they are starting to lay. Lots of people call them fart eggs....go onto BYC and search fart eggs. Lots of photos. As long as they have good feed and you are giving them oyster shells...it is probably because they are starting out.

This of course is my very uneducated opinion....so if others believe differently please peep up.

Pun intended.

We had one in our house while I was growing up. There was a damper on the pipe going to the chimney. Yes it was in our house...in the basement....our house was over 3000 sq ft. It kept it more than warm at times. The heat Omits fromt he barrels. I am sure they are even better "designed" now than from when I was a kid. It did a fantastic job. My dad had come home late on a New Year's nite.....he loaded the stove and "shut it down" a bit too early. Sometime in the middle of the nite it had built up so much (I dunno something - pressure, smoke, whatever) that it blew the pipe off the top and smoke throughout the house. but this was my dad's fault....he shut the damper down to fast/soon. But again - 30 years ago. We had that puppy hot a few times but never had a problem with melting.

Fire is built in the bottom. There is a pipe to the second barrel. Smoke rises to second barrel....if I remember correctly there is some kind of "baffle" in the second barrel. Smoke/heat, etc....swirls around in second barrel then out the top pipe and out the chimney.

Regarding house insurance ..... I have no clue. At the time the double barrel stove passed and was okayed by the insurance company..but it was the pellet furnace (a few years later) that my dad wanted to insert that the insurance company questioned and my dad had to do all sorts of researching for them and get their approval...yada yada yada.

And yes it was 2 or 3 years ago.....x 10. Truly I think it was 30-35 years ago when we had that in our house.

My silly chickens ran outside at 19 degrees. Well, the babies are smart enough to go into the coop that is still warmer than that and has a light for them. The rest ran to the house to wait for the sun to rise over the trees and hit it. All settling in against it. They know it gets hot with reflected sun heat.

And I'm happy my heated waterer worked. All my netting over the run is down from the snow. We need to get the wire up like planned. DH says we can clear roof it for them.

It appears this is all on the mend and it looks like there shouldn't be any problems.
Now this is just MY OPINION but I feel that a good amount of this stems from the fact that WE are associated with BYC. See one of the individuals involved here has made it known that he does not like the people of BYC. So let me think about this. I ask this person for a little info at Stevenson and he seemed less than willing to help me (basically a newbie). Then on the other hand look at all of what my BYC buddies have done for me AND others. Well it don't take a rocket scientist like me to see why not to like BYC. NOT !!!
