Exactly; it just doesn't go anywhere particularly useful: beautiful, my lord, but I rarely have busness in, say, Bingen or even Umatilla.

(why yes, I am typing this with bandaids on three fingers because my hangnails have hangnails).

But What about Goldendale, Biggs Junction, Rufus, Celilo, The Dalles, Lyle, Dufur or enroute to California !

When I take Dana's incubator back it'll be the first time I've been out of Thurston County since the last time I went to the Wine Shop.

Don't get around much anymore

So, guess what I found out last night? The skylight in the hall bathroom is leaking!

Right into the already slave-ship level of horror that is the chick box.

Good, more guilt and feelings of inadequacy and generally not being a decent human being, lovely.

(Also, the alleged play sand is so far from being washed that they all look as if they've been painted grey from the high clay content. UGH).

You brought it up so I can mention WS-DOT without feeling like I'm advertising my husband's business (he's a sysadmin/desk top support for a bunch of specialist engineering people like Photogrametry) but this is the page I was looking at yesterday. Today I feel like tearing my hair out: the snow level went up sufficiently that the whole way right through is bare and wet.

(Ah, "bare and wet," like "stop and go traffic from {the brewery} Tully's to the ship canal" "road closed from Grand Mound to Napavine for water over roadway" or "sunbreaks:" list of specialist terms for life in Washington).

CR. You get a laugh out of this.

You mentioned cottonwood and the problem drying it.
Did I ever learn a lesson with that wood.

I get a lot of wood off craigslist.
It helps me out and the people who don't have fireplaces they are happy as can be that I would take it from them.

So back when I was less educated about wood I see this guy not far from me stating he had couple cords of it so I'm all excited thinking wow not only is it bucked, it's in small enough widths I will be able to cut it with just my axe.

So I go there and start loading the stuff and I'm thinking these small logs sure are heavy compared to other wood I've got same size they sure must carry some water.
I had no idea at the time how much.

Get all the wood home and start to splitting them.
The first swing of the axe.................... reality hit me like a ton of bricks when water splashed up in my face.

I had to cut that stuff up into really small pieces and even then it was a pain to get dry.

I'd try to throw some of that junk in with my good wood.

Three years later you still heard a sizzle. Not the sound you want to hear.

Live and learn.

Sorry Greg laughing WITH you not laughing AT you. You can also leave cotton wood out on the ground and it will start to grow even after it is cot and split. When it does dry it will burn up faster than cedar. It's like burning paper.

So I just learned a new trick today. some might know it. I took BBQ skewers and cut the round end (handle) off and stuck them in the ground in the run, then pushd apples down on them. the girls love them
