That really stinks. Why are some people so nasty? You asked the neighbor before you got the chickens, she agreed, and now she's changing her mind? I am so sorry. What is her problem with you're having chickens? Is it anything you can compromise on?

Can you rearrange the run?

The run is a five foot chain link fence with 6" wide cement (I have no idea how deep) under the whole thing. It also has 1/4" hardware cloth on the bottom three feet. I put up 9' pvc pipe (5'chainlink and 4' plastic chicken wire) and covered it.

Please excuse the dirty yard and wheelbarrow.

From slightly to the right of the window to her house is 51'. That is her garage to the right. To make the run stay >50' from her house, it would leave about enough room to get through the door to the run and that is about it.

Hi All,
havent posted in a while, hope all is well with everyone. I need to rehome a rooster, exhibition Orpington stock/ half English black cockerel. from the orpington secretary's lines. very nice boy, not aggressive or flighty. about 8 months old. he is actually pretty friendly. I have not put him on craigslist yet as he is really to nice to eat. I have 2 other roosters that I am going to grow out and do not need 3 at this time. 20.00 bucks to list members. also a young splash 100% english roo, he is about 5 months old. 15.00

You've been very quiet lately.

not enough time to keep up sadly... rebuilding my fence that blew down in the storm.

Again or a different section.

Mia. So your neighbor stated chickens OK at first then when It was time to get a letter signed they go south on you correct?
If so you might fight this.
Media works wonders for common sense to prevail.
Show them the expense etc you went to after receiving neighbors permission.
I know the argument back at you will be but it was your responsibility to get a letter and my reply back would be I took their word on the situation thinking they would keep it like a DECENT person would.

It's worth a shot but legally that neighbor and city council who drew up the joke have you any way you look at it.

It is beyond my belief why anyone should have a right to say what you have, or what you do on your property, until such action becomes a harm to another persons quality of life and when that happens meditation is the way to solve it, not blanket ordinances by power tripping so called educated fools who have never read the Constitution!

You might try going down to city hall and see what the procedure is for getting an extension.
If you say you are looking for homes for them hopefully someone down there not power tripping will give it to you.

Then I'd spend that extension time moving my run.

Giving up?
No go. NEVER!

Why not move the run and install a different door entrance to it?

Home Depot has the gate materials.

If money is tight forget the more expensive gate and cut the door out.
Cement in two cherry timbers each side of door.
Make your door using the thicker then chicken wire square wire.
Take 1x2 wood around perimeter of wire to sturdy it up and you got a door.
Many ways to attach it.
Simple hinges will work.
Make a couple of cross bars attached to cherry timber to go across for security.

Do what you have to do to keep them.
You can do this.

Don't let some one whose life is so miserable the only joy they get is to power trip on their neighbors.

Help - I think there may be a "tanning" expert on this thread

Ok, so most glorious spousal unit has decided that we (meaning me) is going to make a bedspread out of rabbit hides. After all, it's not nice to waste any part of our animals that we raise for food right?

So, I have been checking online and found so many methods. just wondering which to use. Then I remembered I saw either a taxidermist or tanner online somewhere. If you are, or know who, can you contact me please before hubby gets even more mad ideas. He's already ordered 50# of alum.

Lord knows what he'll come up with for the heads

Post Thanksgiving - or Are you doing Turkey again at Christmas?

For those of you doing another turkey at Christmas, might I suggest you check out this link (it's part one of two)?

I have tried it twice now (once 10 days before the holiday, just to make sure it was ok). It was so fabulous and worth the little bit of extra effort in preparations. Also, my 16# turkey cooked to perfection in 2 hours, yup only TWO!

I also made the other things that went with it, except I made glazed onions instead of ones in cream. The cranberry chutney was simply bliss.

I love to cook

Hmm, now if it were me, I would make them stand by their "WRITTEN" regulations, which say "building they are housed in". A run is NOT a BUILDING, and they are noy HOUSED in the RUN! The run is simply their "yard, just like you have your "yard', with surrounding fence.

They can hum and haw all day, but you can say that if they don't stick to their own regs, you will take it to court. I am not averse to going to small claims, in Thurston county it only costs about 39 $ filing fees.

Do make sure though that you have a copy of the regs and that is does indeed say "building they are housed in", and doesn't mention anything about runs.

Go for it - don't let them ride rough shod over you
