I have a chick! When can I take it out??

The one who pipped (?) yesterday hasn't hatched any further, but it's still breathing.

I can probably help her out. Is she coming to the show? If so we can talk there and she can probably go home with birds. Unfortunately I don't have much time to talk before the show as I have homework and tests- in fact I have a test tomorrow afternoon from which I am leaving directly for the show.

The breeder may have been concerned because the best silkies are often far more delicate in many ways than a normal bird. There is a definite learning curve and I would recommend the first silkie be a good bird, but perhaps not the super large crested highly vaulted fluffy princess. Has nothing to do with 4-h or not, has to do with the fact they are prone to mites, sometimes get neurological issues, prolapse/egg bound (the BB silkie from crossroads died laying her first egg and while I have never had egglaying issues it seems some can be prone), they sometimes can't see well enough to find food or shelter due to crest size.

anyhow, be glad to talk to her. Just at or after the show.... finals coming up. Eeeek~!

Oh, thank you PitterPatterPalace!
What a perfectly lovely son you have!
Can't wait to hold him in my arms!
Thank you for posting these lovely photos!

Thank you & everyone else adoring him. We got a cutie (but may be a bit biased).

No, never biased! He is so cute! I tend to forget how little and sweet they are at the beginning. It is becoming a very dim memory.

I can't remember if I told everyone here, but my DS crashed his car a couple of weeks ago. He is fine but the car had $6500 damage. It's still in the shop.
So mom is back to being taxi driver most of the time. He did drive himself today in the tank(Escalade). But it's such a gas guzzler, I don't want him to drive it every day.
On another note, I am so sad that I won't be coming to the show to meet up with all those going.

I hope someone takes lots of pictures and post them! Please?

Hope you all have a wonderful time and good luck to all that are showing.

I am not sure about incubators - I think you're supposed to leave the lid closed at the end until as many of the chicks hatch as possible? I'm sure someone will chime in soon!

I understandand am in no way trying to talk you awayfrom taking them to the show. BUT if you need them gone by the time you see they aren't going at the show the crowd may be gone at the sale things tend to clear out shortly after the auction is over.

oh well, I was under the impression you could rent a space there and sell out of your truck?? I went to the website for the yardbirds sale and thats what it said?? hmm... well, not much I can do except try I guess??

you can sell from your truck.. but like CR said..once the auction is done everyone leaves. And YES.. I would say Yardbirds clientele are lookin for a meal! lol! Sale cages at the show = 4H kids looking to start a program, folks looking to broaden the gene pool at home etc. CR.. you probably don't remember that one ol guy looking at my cochins at Yardbirds scratching his head .. wondering what the heck someone would do with a chicken like those? lol! It still makes me laugh inside when I think of it.. anyway.

I can't wait to meet everyone on Saturday.

I would resist the temptation to cuddle that little baby as long as possible, especially since you have another pipped. The chick will be fine. When my first chick hatched, she and I just gazed at each other through the window for over a day until some of her other hatch mates were out. Juju is still one of my favorites and is always the first to run to me, (along with the Faverolles girls) stays by my side, follows me around the yard. Sometimes I think it's because she had no one but me to look at the entire first day of her life.
She still insists on eating treats from my hand instead of a dish. And she has the "softest" mouth, taking her treats very delicately from my hand, instead of stabbing me with frenzied greed like all the others.
