Well we got home a bit ago and after lunch for DW we decided to get our first in the daylight lookat fudge. As some of you have seen he looks pretty good in that pic. Well now that I can actually see him outside in the open he looks a little different. AWESOME just doesn't come close I just don't know how to express it I am so ??? to have such an awesome roo.
Thank you Jeanine ! ! ! I know Fudge is special to you and you have no idea how it makes me feel that you have a good enough opinion of me that you are willing to place him here.

Yay!!! There's always been "something about him" that just makes me look twice at him whenever I walk by...the LF Fav coop seemed a little empty today, but Kable is sure happy that he's the only roo for now!!

Well after I was awakened again by Horace, I knew it was time to take care of things.

I now have his hide pinned out and covered with borax. He was a gorgeous roo, but way to noisy. I think that when the light would come on at 6 am it was scaring him. He was yelling, and after a few minutes he would calm down. But I live much to close to a lot of people that don't have chickens like I do.

I did talk to a guy at the show that will caponize a roo for any of us. I just can't justify feeding a bird that isn't going to have a real use. But if anyone has a roo that they want to be a pet, this would be the way. The roos that are caponized don't crow anymore. I might do this with Harold, that way he can gain more weight, with out the problems of having a very large roo in a pen with several bantams.

Kim bought a couple chicks from a guy in Fall City last summer. I think that might be the guy. I have been watching his add for over a month. I'm tempted to go after his Cal white and welsummer born 8/31/11.... Like I need MORE chickens

This was a big deal for the calls.. having a champion PASTEL!! go up as Best Bantam Duck. Totally cool. Yes, I know, she was a call duck.. BUT she wasn't white or gray!

Watch out.. pretty soon there will be a Butterscotch up. muahahahah!

It was very fun seeing everyone yesterday. I know I didn't get to say hi or bye to a lot of people, but it was really nice.

Good food, good friends, good times.

Will a caponized roo still take on the role of protecting a flock? I don't plan to do it as I don't have the room to house an extra chicken without any real purpose, but if I thought it might serve a purpose then it could be something to consider in the future.

I thought the purpose of a Capon was so he would grow nice and big, and be tender for when you ate him. They are about 10-12 lbs, bit smaller than a turkey and good for my family of 2 (lots of leftovers so I don't have to cook every night). I had a capon a few weeks back - fabulous
