Hi All;
My name is Carol and Red Reiner turned me to this thread. I live in La Center, Wa which is just a few miles north of Vancouver Wa. I very proudly raise English Orpingtons. I got my birds from Bamachicken. I am just thrilled with how they turned out. My girls are starting to lay consistently and I cant wait to start hatching after the first of the year. Here are a few pics that I took last week. Hope you enjoy looking at them.

Welcome to the thread Carol! I believe we had seen a photo of you and Red Reiner holding your birds at the Monroe show last spring. (At least that's what I remember, I hope it's accurate!) I've been a lurker on the Imported English Orpington thread for some time so have known about you and your beautiful birds for several months. Gorgeous, every one of them! Good too see you here.

I assumed they were strangers because after taking the food they wandered off with it. That's a big assumption on my part. I'm properly ashamed.

I wandered off to go talk to people, check my show birds, check my birds in the sale area, ask the raffle people if they wanted to be spelled for a bit, and I didn't bring a chair (couldn't fit one in my car) so I didn't have a place to sit. Also, I can't sit still at a show for very long to save my life! To many people to talk to, tease, things to look at, stuff to do, etc etc etc. I was in the ASBC apron and had a shirt with a syringe on it. I wandered in and out... talked with some people, and didn't stay in any one place too long. Don't feel guilty, as I am certain there were probably some people, especially kids, who thought the food was for everyone and helped themselves. The boy with the plate of baklava might have been a boy who I am fairly certain is special needs that was at the show.

One thing I wanted to say about the food thing- I was, before the stove kicked it, going to have my daughter bake one of her amazing-but-alas-not-gluten-free-nor-hypoallergenic cakes and I myself would have made some sort of meatball-ish sort of thing. As it was, I blew my meager entertainment budget on some cheeses from Trader Joe's that I've been longing to try and the cheapest crackers I could desire (well, the rosemary ones aren't cheap, but I've finally found where to get them for under $5). I now know that the green-waxed Welsh chive-and-shallot stuff is as good as I can stand, and need to buy another chunk this weekend! So, good side effect.

I wish, though, that there was a quiet space away from the poultry clamor for chatting. Although I was reminded rather strongly that chicken shows are not unique in that way: yesterday afternoon I had the cows going off every time any vehicle with a bad muffler went by, plus six day-care kids screaming at the top of their lungs, plus the unoiled swingset is even squeakier in cold weather. Ad to that the noise caused by a major incursion of my cousin's chickens and a suet-box raid by the blasted starlings and there you have a recipe for too much noise.

how cool was that that you had one in your trailer she could buy? very cool!! lol the little guy...he isnt done growing yet either. ..

4312 I did the same thing!! when I got hoss...I had to go out and cut the pop door bigger because he could not get thru it. Hoss took up almost half the 500 wire crate when I got him, giant bird, I sure hope his blue son turns out like him. cant wait for pics of all three when they are settled in

'
I took photos....just need time to put them on. Had to cut the poop door twice the size we had originally done. my DH was astonished on how big he is. He crowed a few times....but then Adam the Serama crowed. Gimpy (now Quincy) quit. ......
