Washingtonians

OK, here I am. I haven't posted on BYC because it's just too darn big and confusing, I mostly hang out on the Polish Breeder's Club, Araucana, and Serama forums. However, several people at the show yesterday said this Washingtonian thread is the place to be. My breeds are as listed. Everyone who missed the Stevenson show missed a great time. Good birds, good fun, good food, and the view out my window this morning is like a picture on a postcard. Amazing!

- And wow, someone nearly like me

- I always must have something crested or tufted. Although muffed and feather footed goes in my basket too.

This fall or next year I really look foreward to taking either my Splash or my Blue Araucana to a show. . . I'd really love to meet other Araucana breeders, and especially would hope to buy an extra cockerel

cmsdvm,

Of course this is the place to be. All the

people hang out here. I'm gonna have to make it to a show one of these days. Sounds like fun.

I drove down and back yesterday from Whidbey Island. I was up at 4:30 and on the first ferry at 5:30. I had no idea it was going to be quite so far or quite so beautiful there. Next time (and there will be a next time because there were some fantastic looking birds yesterday) I will go down for a night or two and take in the whole experience. Sounds like they are going to try to make next October's show even bigger (and I bet there might be some outstanding fall color in addition to the amazing feathered creatures).

Came home with two incredible Silkies, who make my current two look almost like they have regular feathers. But I wanted to bring home so much more - LOVED the standard sized cochins. I have a little bantam cochin, who is a real joy, but the standards were absolutely regal. And, I fell in love with a goose -- and there was also a silver laced Polish who really looked like she had attitude, and a cute little black frizzle roo (only ten dollars but he looked like he was really annoying the hens he was in with like mad, so thought it was best not to take a chance).

I didn't stay very long because I was worried about the long drive home, but now that I've had a taste - I'll be back. There is so much to learn, and next time I may have to do some homework before I go. MAYBE -- BIG maybe, one of my new little runner ducks will be worthy of showing as the parents are breeder/show quality from Holderreads. Though I think Dave Holderread mentioned that he doesn't like to show much in the last few years because they don't often don't allow/use? tall enough pens for displaying the Runners anymore. Not sure if I got that right or not ...

Sure do miss it.
ETA: Although my fiber arts skills are nothing to brag about. I stick out like a sore thumb in my family there. Mom and both sisters sew, knit, crochet and/or do other things to varying degrees, I can barely sew a straight seam.

Me too ! My Mom can watch TV and in ten minutes knit a gorgeous sock or hand quilt or machine quilt and I cannot do that at all. I can patchwork, but have to tie my quilts.
My gig, is professional watercolor artist, specializing in all critters in fur, feathers or fins.
I do not have a web site, nor time to set one up, but here is some pictures of some paintings

Oh I don't know, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing these and I would have missed them if they were anywhere else. You've got to find an interested party to build you a website.

Why would a husband care if you had koi?

I just have some pond comets and my pond is not big enough to have Koi but I just love them. I show rabbits and if I had the time I would show chickens if I had some that would be good show chickens. Do people show barnvelders???

I am in Richland, WA. Brand new at backyard chicken raising with my first little flock of 6 golden penciled hamburg chicks. We're just building the coop this weekend! Happy to know we have neighbors!
