Can't be as big as we want because of space issues. They get charged to rent the building (I believe it is $1200, or maybe $900, a day? Something like that) and as you can see they didn't have a huge amount of extra space that wasn't used for showmanship or vendors, nor were there extra tables just sitting around. I think having it with Rob's stuff worked well,.. and I hope it didn't affect sales. Was so nice to see all of you there!

This is one reason some folks want the show moved to Elma--bigger, nicer space...
just sayin'

I would like it to be moved to puyallup, much closer to me

Harder to get lost in Elma, too.

I wonder if the Monroe show will get to use the new building or stay in the same one as last year, new building is huge! and bright!

Hmm I've heard some of this!! If it isn't your soul source of income tho, is it possible to do well? Don't get me wrong, not wealthy just doable??

Somebody (Grace?) linked to the WSU Small Farms site- they're really good at providing ag econ information. For what you're talking about, I'd also recommend getting in touch with whoever is already selling stuff in your area: one thing with is absolutely true about the kind of specialty products you're talking about is that more vendors in a locality is good for all of them, up to a very high number. People still come from out-of-area to the Oly Farmers Market for garden annual starts, nursery plants, perennials, bulbs, and cut flowers because there are sufficient vendors for there to be a choice among a wide selection; having three butcher shops and two seafood ones has increased sales for all of them.

Most people who are making a living from their small farm have at least one family member working a job with benefits or they are young retirees with a pension and health coverage. If you're trying to sneak up on quitting your day job, you need to have a whole lot of information from people who know your area, your proposed products, and your suppliers. The Extension Service is always the first place to ask.

Thank you!! as for the day job, right now my husband is the one holding down the fort! This would be my day job!....and night job.....and weekend job....

Proably not, the show is a one day only to keep costs down, so no way they're paying more for a bigger building.

I was about ready to run over some Charolers and jolly old elfs if they didn't get out of my way - did they not know they were slowing me down from getting to a Poultry Show...sheesh....prioritize people.

Can you say MAP & compass not GPS.

See this was a prime example of GPS FAIL! ! ! GPS are agreat tool but they require batteries, Satellite signal and will take the shortest route with out regard for what kind of snake trail that shortest road is.

Ya know I thought of it after it was too late. If I had sold you the other crate that is a little smaller I bet it would fit in yer truck.

It is all good. The one I got from you allowed the roo and the 2 pullets to all be in there and they fit nicely. Thank you so much. It made it so much easier on them.

Yeah, the new building is gorgeous. We had lots of worries about sharing it with the dogs at the Evergreen Fair, but it was so big and bright and beautiful, it wasn't a problem at all.I doubt the show will be in it. It's usually in the Beef/Livestock Pavillion.

I took photos....just need time to put them on. Had to cut the poop door twice the size we had originally done. my DH was astonished on how big he is. He crowed a few times....but then Adam the Serama crowed. Gimpy (now Quincy) quit. ......

Quincy!! awesome name! not spoiled or anything, riding in the cab and sightseeing on the way home lol. he is probably wondering just how big that other rooster is that answered him when he got there...quietly wondering if he is going to get his butt kicked lol

LMBO right now. I did not get home tonight until after dark...but DH was home and he (DH) went with some bread and played with the "new" kids. You gave me a good laugh. Poor Quincy. getting beat up by the "little" kid. He is being quite the gentlman to the little pullets in the pen with him. It is going to get cold tonight so we put a light bulb in their coop tonight...it is only a 40 watter...but it will put off a little heat. He will be spoiled here. Oh, my DH absolutely loves him...how big he is and how beautiful he is.

LOL....He was crowing when I went out to feed/water at 5:30 this morning. Didn't hurt a sole by doing either. I am up around 5...neighbors are leaving for work by then (like I care anyway)...LOL. He can crow to his heart's content...does not disturb anyone.

Glad you got your sleep....that way you can come to the next show and I can meet you.

I'm sure it won't be long before rsngstr's birds are on CR's radar, especially since hers are probably closer!

Hmmmm.....I gues I will need to talk to CR so that when he does c..rustle...that I am on the receving end...as MY Quincy would like his own harem.
