Quincy!! awesome name! not spoiled or anything, riding in the cab and sightseeing on the way home lol. he is probably wondering just how big that other rooster is that answered him when he got there...quietly wondering if he is going to get his butt kicked lol

LMBO right now. I did not get home tonight until after dark...but DH was home and he (DH) went with some bread and played with the "new" kids. You gave me a good laugh. Poor Quincy. getting beat up by the "little" kid. He is being quite the gentlman to the little pullets in the pen with him. It is going to get cold tonight so we put a light bulb in their coop tonight...it is only a 40 watter...but it will put off a little heat. He will be spoiled here. Oh, my DH absolutely loves him...how big he is and how beautiful he is.

to nice for the freezer, I think all those life lessons Larry taught him were good ones, nice gentle rooster.

I figured we would be in the same building as last time in Monroe, but thats ok, and there is heat in there. hope they turn it on. I am not a club member but I will try to go down early and help them set up. I spread shavings last year lol. Elma is further from me than chehalis... and Elma has even fewer hotel choices if its an overnight show.

It's all good!! NO Worries!!! I didn't mean to start anything, just wanted to make suggestions for a more cohesive potluck!! (not sure if that's the right term) I'm excited about Monroe!!

Rustler- that makes sense,.. in which case it is a fairgrounds issue and has nothing to do with the club. At Stevenson the show committee provides a lovely lunch and takes 'donations' to help pay the cost.

But those of us that have allergies cannot eat at a 'restaurant' sort of feed.
The whole pot luck thing started as I could not go out to eat with everyone at last Monroe Show..I chose to stay behind & have my lunch packed..and at the last minute so many awesome BYCers chose to also stay behind & pot luck with me, bringing all sorts of gluten free & sugar free foods that we could all enjoy.
labels are shown, and everyone tells everyone what the ingrdients are.
It is awesome for people like myself who are deathly allergic to some substances.
This show, the pot luck has grown!!!
And it was awesome!!!!!!!!

So this is how the pot luck came about.

This is one reason some folks want the show moved to Elma--bigger, nicer space...

I would like it to be moved to puyallup, much closer to me

I LOVE ELMA!!!!!!!!
Excellent Fairgrounds & a way much better price!
My Mother is in the Satsop Fiber Guild, and usually they have their fairs at Shafer meadows.but it has grown and Schaffer is a gated community & some residents complained about cars lining the roads & "strangers" in the community.
So Scaffer Fiber Guild has moved to Elma Fairgrounds as well.

Puyallup FG will cost a fortune this club cannot afford!

Well I met another great BYC member today. Suzie came over and helped me get all my birds dosed with Eprinex. I don't think I could have done it without Suzie (aka chickens4gramma) I was able to share some of my bottle of Eprinex with Suzie. I would rather have the bottle used up, than sit around and have pass it expiration date. So if anyone else would like a little of the Epriex for their flock, let me know. I am also thinking about getting vaccines for the flock. But as far as I know the smallest quantity is enough for a 1000 birds. So maybe a group of us can share in buying and getting our flocks immunized.

I am very happy that I got the coop cleaned on Sunday. I ran out of daylight before I got it done, and the girls were rather irritated by having to wait to go to bed. Miss Tulay got tossed out the door this afternoon. She acted like a normal chicken. I was getting worried, because it seems that all she was doing was just sitting in her dog crate. She was really cute when she found the other chickens. She was able to look at them through the mesh on the bottom of the coop. Tulay was excited, and chatted with the other birds.

Larry the hummingbird didn't show up until we were done. Larry or Fred normally will sit up in the willow tree and supervise me. I am fairly sure that them little birds say very mean things about me.

Hmm I've heard some of this!! If it isn't your soul source of income tho, is it possible to do well? Don't get me wrong, not wealthy just doable??

Somebody (Grace?) linked to the WSU Small Farms site- they're really good at providing ag econ information. For what you're talking about, I'd also recommend getting in touch with whoever is already selling stuff in your area: one thing with is absolutely true about the kind of specialty products you're talking about is that more vendors in a locality is good for all of them, up to a very high number. People still come from out-of-area to the Oly Farmers Market for garden annual starts, nursery plants, perennials, bulbs, and cut flowers because there are sufficient vendors for there to be a choice among a wide selection; having three butcher shops and two seafood ones has increased sales for all of them.

Most people who are making a living from their small farm have at least one family member working a job with benefits or they are young retirees with a pension and health coverage. If you're trying to sneak up on quitting your day job, you need to have a whole lot of information from people who know your area, your proposed products, and your suppliers. The Extension Service is always the first place to ask.

And I might add, the best way to succed, is to have enough land to raise the feed for your animals.
When you have to BUY the feed, you are loosing money.

My cat Achmed just came and apparently needed a mama (nbbbbbbb Achmed wrote this.) snuggle. He is starting to figure out that the nasty little dogs are no longer here. I think that the cat is missing the biggest pup. Chips and Achmed loved each other. I don't mind giving the cat a snuggle, but it is gross because Achmed the Terrifying Terrorist drools when he gets a snuggle.
