Hello. I wanted to say hello for the first time. My name is Melissa and I live in Washington, near Yakima. I have 15 chickens and they are my first ever. 4 golden wyandottes, 1 silkie, and 3 unknowns bought March 6, 4 golden sex link bought April 3, and 3 easter eggers bought April 15. I'm very excited about learning how to better care for my chickens. I also have three kids and am married to a great husband who built a chicken coop for me even though he's not as excited about the chickens as I am! I hope I get to know you all better! Blessings, Melissa:frow

On a WSU list Im on gave that info. So thats why I put it on here but I bet anyone can google it and see or go to there website and see.

When I was at work the 1 and 2nd year we had ducks crossing in from of the bus's and we all stoped for them its really funny seeing 16 or so bus's stop for something like that.

i just went and candled the eggs from my broody hens and i think all are fertile some are not anywhere as i put more in today and yesterday. i keep adding this one buff bantm hen's eggs cos we cant eat them because i had it on antibiotics for 3 days to prevent infection after i cut off its toenail.....

but its so cool being able to see the yolk darken.

these are going to be some very interesting cross breed chickens... my plan? get more interesting breeds and cross them. choosing the coolest looking, hardy and egg laying.

i cant wait to candle again in 2 days. in the beginning is every other day good?

ah. i am excited to observe the development stages.... as my bf would say. i am easily amused....
so yeah if these all hatch i will be buried with chickens

tomorrow or the next day i am expecting 20 to come in at the feed store. then there are the 11 i have. then the two broody's on top of my 27 chickens that are mature.....

i am starting my hatching thread... i think the tenative hatch date is somewhere around the 9th of may... give or take....
if eggs are added to a broody over a period of 3-4 days.... will the new ones catch up and mature around the same time? (i read this somewhere)

I don't know how many of the old group are still on here. I know that I see Rob's posts still.

My news. Went to court today and lost. Sentencing put off 6 months, but not sure why they bothered. Opposition smug. Wouldn't even acknowledge that my doctor was a doctor or that her letter was written by her.

Total BS.

Thanks to Suburbanchickchick for going to court and supporting me as only she could. <3 <3 <3

Thinking that I want to find a home for the whole flock at this point. I would at least need someone who could take Pinky and some of his girls to be placed with other hens to make a flock of about 16-18. He is a little bit hard on the 12 he currently reigns over.

Pinky is a good and responsible roo who loves his girls and protects them especially from loud human men. Given a chance he will charge an intruder. But I can scold him and he backs down without incident. He responds to kindness and agression in predictible ways.

Current flock is
Pinky BA Roo
Olive BA
Liza BA
Gracie BO
Roz BR
Mya Dark Cornish
Francie Production Red
Midge Rhode Island Red (Lots of chocolate breeding potential)
Fred New Hampshire Red
Willow White EE - Light blue egg, has gotten slightly greener, but returns to blue when she misses a day or two. (Seems like it should go the other way. ???)
Oddrey EE - Pumpkin at head to Cream fluffy tail feathers - Greyish olive egg
Teddie EE - Typical gold black barring - light avacado egg
Angela EE - Wheaten - Egg is spring green on one end fades to an avacado on the other..... Usually very hard shelled and double yolk shape. I love her egg -

For someone who wants to enjoy an integrated flock, this is great. I can't keep them as a whole flock, so I believe it is best for them, if I let them go to someone who will shower love and affection on them as a family together and add few hens in to relieve the burden of a randy roo. Splitting them up isn't what I want at all. If you think you would like a new whole flock of chickens age 10 months soon, averaging 9 eggs per day in the winter, please let me know.

Thanks very much.

PS. I am looking for a Crowing Dominent Hen to start up a new flock of 8 which is allowed under the law. The crowing is my little joke on the neighbor....... It is better than hunting her down & drowning her in her coy (actually only gold fish) pond. Which of course I would never do....LOL

Well, the world's laziest 4H club- the Spanaway Squawkers- is going to get around to having a meeting May 8 at 2:00 pm unless there are serious complaints. PM me for details if you want to attend. We will be filling out thrilling paperwork for 4H and teaching/reviewing basic showmanship bird handling techniques.
