Poor kitty! She's lucky to have found a loving person like you (or be found by...). You could call her "Caillee" (KAI-AY, accent on the 2nd 'e'), which is slang for "frozen" in French.

Been snowing all morning here in Tacoma. I think we're on the northen edge of the storm that's hitting Olympia. My girls refuse to go out into the Scary! White! Stuff! We put a heat lamp in the coop overnight for them (it glowed red all night because the roof is clear... haha) and they wouldn't come out until 10a.

Here in Kelso we have at least 1 to 2 inches of snow and it is coming down hard. It is really windy too. The girls do not seem to mind the snow but dont like the wind much. They have a nice cozy coop to hide out in though. I am having a hard time keeping the waterer thawed out however. Enjoy the snow, if you are getting some and Merry Christmas!

Glad to hear about all the critters (chickens and cats) that are getting rescued! Down here in Olympia it has been snowing since 5 AM. The hens are freaking out about the snow--their run is covered, has a microscopicly thin layer of snow, but they don't much care to go out there--even with scratch! This weather sounds like it will be a long 2 weeks for us wussy little "coasties"!

How is everyone handling the snow? Right now it is over 4 feet deep. The field fence at the goat/sheep pen is completely covered, you can barely see the insulators on top of the t-posts. The netting over one of my runs caved in and my 1 red golden hen and one silver hen flew away. The pheasants love "snow swimming", they have little tunnels like mice in their pens, its crazy.
How is everyone else handling all of it?

wow! sounds like you have a LOT of snow! I just finally got some snow after they'd been promising for a week. Here's some pics of my girls...

Here's Lacey and Anya - they aren't quite sure what this stuff is???

Here's Talula - she says, "its snow dummy's get out here and play!"

Here's the view out my back window through the lilac tree (note the bird feeder on the right... we call it "kitty tv").

It's been snowing here pretty hard for the past 2 hours, and has really accumulated.

And here's Gwen, our sole layer, out in the snow with DBF. She's the only one of the 4 girls who could be convinced to come into the snow. She's a sweetie!

today was the first day our girls didn't spend outside much - apparently, they like fairly heavy snowfall WAY less than they like bitter cold and wind. crazies. they could be enticed out with treats (oatmeal with raisins!) but as soon as they were done, they hightailed it back inside. kind of the opposite of my human children, who i had to physically drag back inside when they were turning into little popsicles more than once today.

fmp: congrats on your new addition! i'm glad you guys found her.

hope everyone stays warm and dry (except when you're out playing in the snow - then get cold and wet and have FUN!)!

Seriously though never hurts to be prepared for power outage in storms like these...

Basically the snow was sposed to stop today but its still going, very lightly but still snowing. We got about 2 more inches so far.

Selena thats funny. Similar story happened with me though. I saw a sticker that had chickens on it on some huge truck when we were on the freeway. When we were at Walmart the next day I saw it again but this time a person was getting out of it as we were walking by. I gasped and thats when my family knew it was trouble. The mystery chicken person was fast approaching from the rear in the parking lot. Then as they were trying to pass us I just blurted out "you have chickens!?" Then all heck broke loose. They asked how I could tell and I said I noticed the sticker, they said no one ever notices the sticker. We got to talking all through the store. We went our ways and didnt see eachother for ages then we were in Montana and we passed them again, it was awesome.
