I have some 4 days older thats why the tails. I wish it was that easy for me to sex them but I have to wait till I see a comb or they crow-lol
I just had a thought.... are most of those chicks the same age? like they hatched within 12 hours of each other?

I have a theory and you might be able to test it. see those chicks without the tails developed??? I bet they are roosters.

oh... in my flock so far the ones without the tail turn out the be the rooster.

thats fairly close to how it is with lots of breeds, my orps, the roosters feather after the pullets but there is always the oddball that didnt read the book. when I first started with chickens I was told it was a fairly accurate way to tell girls from boys. but not foolproof

http://www.king5.com/news/New-law-would-ban-smoking-in--137219503.html

did you guys hear about this?

while i do not smoke and avoid the smoke or hold my breath around people i feel that the state is trying to step into private lives/ lifestyles. the concept is good, you shouldn't smoke around kids.... but, to let the government dictate everything in your privacy... we let this slide then they think they can get more rules on what you can and can't do in life. think this interferes with the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness clause....

CR here is a picture 4 U:

Crusty Rustic!!!!!!!!

Oh, that looks grand!

I'm marinating a bunch of beef stewmeat with soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, garlic and ginger to stirfry with the not-enough-for-anything-but-stirfry dinner tonight, although I'm not looking forward to all the prep. I've got to get my kitchen island and stool back in my preferred configuration, not that the people who griped about it being in the way have all moved out.

I wish I had a young protective dog instead of two very old and infirm ones, because this was what I was while I was giving the chooks some nice warm brown rice this morning.

Yup, right there, in the middle of the frame: coyote. At about 10:30 am, a thousand feet from my chickens and maybe five hundred from where my cousin's were free-ranging later in the day. I am not best pleased. Especially since my first calves are due in thirty days, and this is a big yote.

I envy CL her Jack.
